All: seems most joints like Total Tools, Sydney Tools, hell, near
everyone, has got on the Black Friday bandwagon. I'm not a fan of ads on
the radio where they scream at you, like Sydney tools, Ultimate wood
heaters, et al... but:

at Total tools...(yesterday) 3 piece Stanley wood chisel set.. $15.
comes with a good old stanley knife, worth $15.00!
a TT home brand (iron air) retractable air-hose reel, 10mm x 20 metres,
$59.00 from memory. ( better/cheaper that a $250 Retracta jobbie. When
it shits itself, throw another on the wall. My first one has lasted 3
years so far, and still going. Now have 2 spares. :-) )

Then my Son walked into work this morn, and whilst having morning tea,
he says "you like Civilization game on your computer?" I've been playing
the Civilization franchise, nearly exclusively Civ 2, since the Amiga
days. Still play Civ 2 now. Played last nite! Anywho, boy tells me Civ
6, and a shitload of dlc's inc Australia, are now 88% ? off on Steam.
Not a steam fan, GOG does it for me as you can buy your games and store
them on a NAS, without any need of a connection to play. Never mind, for
that price, i'll do Steam again... Also got Command and Conquer and Red
Alert remastered for $15.00, and Sims 4 for $6.00. I wanna see if i can
knock the diamond off a sims head. :-)

The piece de resistance (fuck French): My Wurth rep rocked up today, a
week after his last visit. He's a lovely bloke, massive smile, swears
like a trooper, and always seems to have something on offer worth
while.. Last visit he's showing me the cattledog, and lo and behold,
they've fucked up, and have 6 spring clamps for $8.99. 2 x 6 inch, 2 x
4", and 2 x 2" $9.00. " I'll take 4 packs". And yep, delivered next day,
24 spring clamps for about $39.00. Misprint in the cattledog. So all
good... move forward to today... he's damn near ran into the office
today... Top bloke. Funny as buggery. He asks "you use cordless tools?"
I replied "yeah, but not yours". Until he showed me what was on offer.
An 18v cordless, brushless hammer drill, complete with normal AND SDS
chucks, 2 x 5AH batteries, charger, and crate. Normally $1000+, i've
scored one for $299. Top bloke, Mal. 😃

And a mate of mine who is a manager (taking note Tommy? a REAL manager,
not some flog you invented to pad your bullshit out) of a paint shop has
got me a Festo 150 Rotex
https://sydneytools.com.au/product/festool-ro-150-feqplus-720w-150mm-6-3in1-rotex-random-orbital-sander?gclid=Cj0KCQiAhf2MBhDNARIsAKXU5GSYKdOuu3eLU0q62tzr21qEPYviR-ug5zn2EseiaaUD9N3N7cZeqg8aAtXJEALw_wcB
without the stupid plastic systainer, for $680.

On top of all that, I pick my new mower up in 7 days (it's actually in
stock!) The world is (nearly) good. :-) Have to wait for the tractor,
and cant buy the tree-puller until the tractor arrives, but will get a
fair bit of clearing done before the summer hits big time... Hopefully. :-)

Nice. I bought one a little while ago and they're great. Mine's only a
15mtr job and I was going to get a 20, but I plumbed air all around the
permimeter of workshop have three hose reels hanging off it at different
locations so I don't have to reach from one end to the other with a
single hose. The ratchet mechanism is grouse.

I've got a Projecta as well, and that's a heap of shit. Apart from
having to manually lock it with the lever, the hose itself is terrible.
It's as hard as a rock and quite difficult to use.

Lol :)

I like military strategy games, as in real time ones. I can't stand turn
based strategy games which is unfortunate as that's what most of them
seem to be. Haven't played any of the Civilisation series for years but
I remember playing Command and Conquer to death :)

Christmas certainly came early for you.

I've been wanting a universal tool and cutter grinder for ages. I never
bothered with one until now as it used to be cheaper and easier to just
use Chinese end mills until you could no longer get a decent cutting
edge on them with a diamond lap and then just throw them away and use a
new one as you could buy a decent universal Metric or Imperial set for
70 bucks and it was just quicker and easier to treat them as disposable
items rather than to tool up to sharpen them properly.

However times change, and now a "cheap arsed" Chinese set of end mills
that are decent enough to be useful are pushing 300 bucks a set, and a
that price they're getting a bit exxy to be dropping into the bin.
Especially if you only get 10 seconds use out of one after going in a
bit too heavy and blunting the fuck out it :)

So I made the decision to buy myself a grinder. They're normally around
a couple of grand for a decent one, but sometimes waiting pays off. Hare
& Forbes in Dandenong were having a 3 day sale where they were doing the
grinder with a decent collet set, end mill side flute attachment, lathe
tool attachment, a drill bi sharpening attachment and a spare grinding
wheel for 1600 bucks, so I jumped in the ute and made the three day trip
across town from Bacchus to Dandy along Melbourne's perpetual roadworks
display to get one.

And it's grouse. The only problem is that not long after I rearranged my
tool room to make a spot for it some dickhead t-boned my Mum's car and
I've been repairing that and haven't had a chance to use the grinder yet :)

it took just on 1.5hrs to get there last Saturday afternoon and 1hr
20mins to get home at 1.00am Sunday, the fwys are disaster zones.

Plenty of dickheads drivers about, son sent me dashcam video of a crash
he witnessed a couple of days ago on Bell St, a Mazda 3 heading towards
him was clipped on the left rear by a Commodore that came out of a side
street without looking, the Mazda span hit a kerb and rolled then slid
on its roof, son helped the woman get out of the Mazda, she wasn't
physically injured but she was in shock.

We live in a cul-de-sac with a roundabout at the end where you join the
road that runs through the suburb. I was coming out in the MX-5 and
there was some little shitbox approaching from the left.Since I was
already in the roundabout I thought that it would give way, but it
didn't. The woman driving didn't even look to the right and just carried
on. I had to brake hard (may have left some rubber on the road) to avoid
t-boning her. I gave her a severe horning, and she just lost it, at the
next roundabout she signaled left and turned right, then signaled right
when she left the roundabout. A hundred metres up the road, she pulled
over presumably to change her knickers.

It's hopeless, isn't it? There's roadworks going on virtually the whole
way from the Ring Road to warragul Road, and it seems to have been in
that state for the last 10 years.

Nasty.

Mum's car wasn't all that serious. A woman in a Suby wagon came out of a
car park a little quicker than what she should have and drove into the
side of my Mum's old Getz. It pushed in the driver's door and rear
quarter panel which I'm repairing now. I'm also giving it a bit of a
make-over repainting things like mirrors, door handles and bumpers as
the clearcoat is peeling off and it needs a tidy up.

It's also been a long time since it has anything done to it
mechanically, so it's getting a decent service and a timing belt.
Believe it or not it's 18 years old and only just clicked over 30k km's
and is still on it's original factory timing belt :)

LOL, amazing it lasted so long.

It's fucking bizarre. It's like they keep changing their minds about
what they should be doing to address traffic problems and continually
alter the works plans. I honestly can't remember the last time I drove
anywhere along that length of freeway when there *wasn't* works going on.

I think the motor is actually shagged as it never gets warmed up. The
longest trip it ever does these days is 4km which is from her house to
her medical specialist, and that's once every six months or so. The
average trip is 1.2km's from her house to the shopping centre once a week :)

She needs to find herself a competent mechanic. Timing belts need to be
changed by time or distance, every mechanic knows that. The bloke who
maintains it is clearly a shonk.

But she was involved in an accident, not her fault according to you but

You thought that too, huh?

Of course, you realise there's the likelihood of nothing in the story
being true. When it's all been said and done, Darren has *form*!

Then that's both of us, huh? Hell, there's still Holden v Ford
supporters... or Hilux v Ranger, huh?

I'm happy to wear that badge. Like the millions of Amiga users around
the world... Seems you feel a bit butt hurt, otherwise you'd not bring
it up. No skin off my nose. I loved the Amiga, and bought my first full
priced "game" ($90.00 30+ years ago) called Harpoon. Apparently at the
time it was used to teach US Navy recruits tactics. Certainly taught me
a bit....Not too bad for a "game"... I still play similar recent 'sims'
like Cold Waters at least weekly. Last game of Cold Waters, I lined
myself up against 9 chinese warships, got six of em before I checked
out... :-)

For what it's worth, I started with a Vic 20, 2 x C64's, then went to
multiple A500's inc a 10meg(!) hard disk that cost my 3rd arm, and ran
my BBS (complete with a sponsor!) for quite some time on an A500 with
the HD, a A2000?, an A1200 with 40gb internal hard disk(?) which was the
ducks guts at the time. Then moved to the "dark side".. a clone.
Amstrad SX 20. Ended up running my BBS on a full tower DX4-100, with 4
cd-roms out front, and an external SCSI 6 disk Pioneer cd-rom drive. 10
cd-roms online.. not unheard of, but still not bad for it's time. IMHO,
the Amiga prepared the world for the PC clones... I'm proud of my
entrance to the world of computers, all self taught, from Amiga's to
through MS-DOS,Windows 3.10, IRQ's, Sound blaster cards with cd-rom
drives, SCSI cards, multiple modems,.... still, proud to be called an
Amiga Wanker.

Lol @ "butt hurt" :)

Jerky is being his usual juvenile dickhead self. My "Amiga" comments
were directed squarely at him and his wank attitude about how the Amiga
was better than anything else. He really is a fuckwit who just loves to
reinvent history.

Agree about Cold Waters. It's a great game and I love playing it. I just
wish there was more to it as the campaigns are over in about 4 or 5
missions. There is apparently an "Infinity" type mod available for it
that allows you to play an indefinite war that lasts for as long as you
like, but I've not been able to get it to work.

"Calls to Arms: Gates of Hell" is one I'm enjoying at the moment. It can
be a little slow and a little repetitive, but if you like Germans
kicking the piss out of Russians it's not too bad :)

Nobody is a "wanker" for having used an Amiga.

Not in the slightest. The words of a proven congenital liar have no

That's quite a late game.

Nice. I played a lot of MoH, COD and BF2 online at one time but these
days GTA5.

40MB, you probably had the A1200 HD/40 like the one I still own except
it now has a CF card instead of a IDE drive. If you still have yours,
they are worth decent money these days. The ducks guts were the big-box
Amigas like the A2000, A3000 and the pinnacle the A4000 though the A1200
was nice and compact and had (and still has) a lot of expansion options.
My Amiga 2000HD had a SCSI hard drive, accelerator and RAM expansion but
also a 486DX SBC inside with with VGA, IDE HDD and CD-ROM all accessible
through Workbench on the Amiga through a parallel network. It could run
Windows concurrently with AmigaOS 3.1 on a dual monitor setup. It was a
beast at the time. I started on a TRS-80 but have used a lot of
different computers since about 1981 after we arrived here, PC's
included so I have a pretty good basis for comparison unlike some people
with strong opinions who were caught out talking smack.

"wanker" is better suited to someone claiming to have owned a PC at a
time before they were even released I'd suggest :-)

Then moved to the "dark side".. a clone.

I might have dialed in to it though there were many to choose from at
that time.

IMHO,

The Amiga showed the world the benefits of a pre-emptively multitasking
32 bit multimedia capable home computer for the creative mind some years
before those things became possible/affordable on PC's and Mac's.

I'm proud of my

I'm lucky to have owned or had direct access to lots of different
systems. None of which made anyone any more or less of a "wanker".

I dunno what "late" relates to. I remember seeing it in the window of a
shop at a large shopping centre... I remember buying it, (whilst having
fuck all spare cash) and I remember i had very little sleep in 5 days,
and the following weekend, couldnt get my mate off the fucking thing
whilst we (missus and I) waited to install a new Panasonic dot matrix
printer. He'd done an all-nighter, from 10pm till 11 am next day. Wife
tells me it was approx 32 years ago, as we wern't in our house at that
stage... Also introduced to the "techno thriller" genre of books by
Larry Bond, Tom Clancy and my favourite, Dale Brown.

I just cant do squad based games.... Having said that, I played my first
game of SIM 4 last nite. And killed my first sim in 2 hours. He wasnt
happy with the sleep deprivation. :-)

Obviously, people hooked in to the Amiga scene way more than me. I loved
the comms side of it. But outgrew it for my BBS hobby. Kept building my
comps from bits... up to about 5 years ago. Recently, bought a Dell
desktop. All the bells and whistles, shitloads of horsepower inc
graphics wise, think it was $1400 with 3 year warranty. I couldnt be
fucked building PC's anymore. only use 2-3 at a time now.

Yep. Piece of shit, but I was hooked on computers, and flying blind.

Couldnt tell you how many users I had at the end, but I know that
digital comms killed the BBS scene for me, and plenty of others. I
destroyed the user database in several different ways. I've an unused
Stallion card with 8 x 16550 uarts onboard somewhere...which would be
the last bit of the BBS days .. 56k was max, one way... and then digital.

No skin off my nose. The Amiga did what I wanted at the time BBS, and
then the PC clone took over my BBS. Aussie software running it
too..Ezycom, by Peter Davis. (gee my memory isnt too shabby...)

Me too. Wife's not happy with the odd sonar ping rattling through the
house at 11.00pm. Tell someone who cares! :-)

Someone has done a mod that allows users to inject all sorts of stuff,
including RAN's Collins class subs. I've seen it, and wouldnt mind
having a crack, but I find myself struggling to sit down for 5-6 hours
at a time.

Civ is the same.. play it, end up doing silly hours at work, sit down 3
weeks later, and "where the fuck am i?" May have a crack at Civ 6
"Australia" tonight... :-) Could be carnage between NSW and QLD... :-)

LOL. I played the sims4 for the first time last nite, and killed my
first sim. Dunno if thats a badge to wear or not.. :-) Hard to get 'em
to stand still when they want a piss. LOL, the Grim Reaper appeared
holding a fucking tablet!! :-D

I expected mine to shit itself/leak, but no... its worked a treat, so
the 2 I bought will sit in reserve, although one may find it's way up
the block.. we've more to do, inc roof over two containers and a

I remember Exycom. There was another popular piece of BBS software I
used for a short while called Remote Access. Lots of "programming" in
Ansi, and anyone who was *anyone* in the BBS scene had to have a US
Robotics modem.

The good old days.....

They revealed who the real wanker was with his proven false claims of PC
ownership :-) He's still *very* butt hurt about being proven wrong.

Late as in the quality was probably there. A lot of early games were
lazy Atari ST ports and didn't take full advantage of the Amiga's full
capabilities.

Unlike SimCity games I never got into the whole SIM games franchise.
GTA5 is a blast, otherwise it's getting challenged to play Forza or
Rocket League and a few others on the Xbox-One by the kids... and
getting smashed nearly every time.

Well yeah, a 386SX was the poor man's 386 but that didn't mean it was
cheap ;-)

The early 80's into the 90's was the best time to be involved in
computers IMO. A lot of diversity during that period which is why so
many people are into the retro-computing scene at present and so much
commercial and hobbyist development is going on.
