I have a Casio digital watch. It must be around 20 years old but I am
very fond of it.

Anyway, about 3 months ago I stumbled and fell damaging myself and
unfortunately the watch.

A shoulder of the case where the spindle holding the metal wristband
lost a piece. Athough I was able to reassemble it, it is not secure.

I tried building up the broken shoulder, first with Araldite and then a
couple of times with Gorilla glue but it came apart again as soon as it
was stressed.

I would appreciate any practical suggestions.

Get a new case for this watch, or an entirely new retro style watch.

If it's a Casio Telememo 30, they are still on sale, in many varieties.
They're a bit more expensive than twenty years ago, though.

This may well be terminal. I have a Parrot Voicemate of similar vintage and
the battery doors are only held in on one side by little plastic bits of the
moulding so when they broke off, the doors fell off. No spares after this
time. The best I could do is find a dead unit and swap the case, but
anything plastic of these ages seem to get very brittle and finding glue as
strong as the original plastic is seemingly impossible without a major
rebuild and that would look pretty bad.

Those Casio clocks and watches were very good and some like the Sharp clocks
even spoke the time, as long as you understood Klingon.

I've had a couple of the notorious Casio F-91W digital watches, where
the battery lasts a lot longer than the strap. I see they still sell
them in Argos for £9.99.

My first Casio digital had the fabric strap which, after the second
one broke, got replaced by a metal strap. Must have been from the
mid-70s

For the last 20+ years I've had the A158W which I wear most days.

Gluing plastic (using the term generically) can be a nightmare, mainly as
many things aren’t plastic in simple terms.

I think Casio watch cases are an example, I believe there are ( or were) a
form of nylon - it has a slight oily ( but not wet) feel. Unlike other
plastics, it rigid but not brittle so can be machined etc.

The oily finish makes gluing difficult.

You could try EBay for a scrap / broken watch an swap the case. People do
buy/ sell watches for parts.

With other difficulty things - including a bit of ‘oily finish’ plastic -
I’ve had success with the Locktite Superglue which comes with an activator
‘pen’. You clean the surfaces. Run the ‘pen’ over one ( it is like a felt
tip), apply super glue to the other, join, hold and it sticks all but
instantly. If you’ve made a new part from Araldite, you may be able to
stick it in place. You can mix dye with Araldite by the way. I’ve dyed it
red before.
