LOL, I've actually seen worse than that, was asked to fix the brakes on
an old Falcon with drum brakes all round, 2 of the 4 drume fell into 3
pieces when we removed them and the entire brake shoe contact area was
missing, only the "rib" of the shoe was left.
The funny bit of the story with the old Falcon was that the owner was so
used to not having any brakes that the day after they were repaired
someone ran up his rear because he braked a lot harder than he needed to.

It's pretty bad, but I've seen shit as bad as that or worse.

Some years ago the cops were having a week-end vehicle safety blitz
doing random roadworthy checks on people's cars, and at one point they
had a film crew from one of the nightly news channels out with them
taking grabs of some of the more "choice" vehicles pulled in to be tested.

One bloke, who looked like the poster boy for the drug fucked skank's
association, was driling some dilapidated heap of shit loaded with
rubbish that looked like it was found at the tip, and when they pulled
him into the checkpoint the car had no steering wheel and he was driving
it with a set of vice grips locked onto the end of the steering column.

To make matters worse, as they were talking to him and he was clearly
wondering what the fuss was all about, smoke started seeping out from
under the bonnet. A copped leaned into the car and popped the bonnet and
when they opened it up they found that the stupid cunt had wrapped a BBQ
bottle in a sleeping bag and jammed it into the engine bay where it had
eventually got hot enough to catch on fire.

The coppers all ran like Carl Lewis :)

The guy is just shooting his day-to-day experiences. Often they are from
wearable cameras. It's interesting to see how these somewhat mundane
things that we in the trade have all seen are finding an external
audience who seem to be captivated by it.

showing his day to day activities and his camerawork is just of him
doing his stuff. I actually think it makes it more relatable as it comes

stabiliser. Brilliant piece of kit, takes out the bounce when the cameraman

Genuine it may be but difficult to watch it also is. One of the cardinal
sins of video is the jump cut and the YouTube amateurs get that one wrong
every time. Their production flaws are easy to pick, especially when they
haven’t properly scripted or storyboarded their video *before* shooting it.
More so if your editing facilities are limited to assembly editing only,
tight scripting is vital. If you intend to make a video for public
consumption it is important that the viewing experience be pleasant. As a
learning video, you need to ensure production issues don’t distract from
the learning experience. I feel sure both of these aspects are what Fred
was focussed on.

Would be wholly unsuitable for the type of videos he makes. The guy is
just working at his job. You'll also not that his work area isn't
squeaky clean, they never are in actual real workshop environments.

If you take your vehicle to a "mechanic" and his workshop looks like you
could eat off the floor using his spanners... run away go find yourself
a *real* mechanic - not a tool collector.

It would have been far more watchable if he could have just pointed the
camera at something, left it pointing at that long enough to take in the
point that he was making, then turn it off before moving to the next
thing, or at least slow panning between them.

You see what he sees as he wears a head (sometimes body) mounted camera
a lot of the time. There is no storyboard or script or storyboard. He
records his day to day stuff and edits it afterwards.

Obviously it's crude but it's meh, who cares. His subscribers don't seem
to mind.

It’s in the post edit where he should be following a script of some sort.
What he should do during his shoot is take a lot of extra shots and stills
so they can be used in *cutaways* and “noddies”. These can be taken after
you have all the live shots you need and you can insert edit them later
where needed. It is what the pros do and there’s a very good reason why -
it enhances the viewing experience. I lost interest in his video as he
walked up to the car in question and I didn’t watch it right through.

I was involved in professional video editing at the college and I do mind
when I see instances where the videographer doesn’t give a toss about the
viewing experience. A video is all about the message and the viewer and
*enhancement* of that should be the videographer’s focus. The video would
have had more impact had it just been a series of stills and narration.

yeah there's an Aussie guy who live in Thailand with his hot girlfriend
who posts videos of their daily life and he uses one. works well when
riding their motorcycles too.
