Finally, it looks like we're on track. I'm going to stick a post on the
FB page (I believe most of you use FB, but I don't want to stick names
on here).

Can you confirm on FB that you're still going or not. I know Mike H has
dropped out.

Mr Fisher asked me a few days ago in response to my Friday ride. I've
put off responding 'cause I'm still trying to figure it out. I really
want to come. I really _really_ want to come. The big question is Covid.
Will it be easy to ride all day and just pop into a different hotel
every night? Can I cross the channel no problem? Will there be other issues?
The other problem that showed up on that 200 mile ride - my body is
falling apart. Over the last 2 years, I've hardly gotten any exercise.
By the end of Friday's ride, my wrists were buggered and my butt was
sore. Will I be able to handle a month in the saddle? This may be my
last ride in Europe. The GS hasn't been ridden in over 2 years. I want
to deliver it to it's new owner in Berkshire, if he still wants it.

I guess I just need someone to kick me in the arse to make the reservation.

but yes, rates have gone up in France and more elsewhere - Johan was
surprised at the hotel rates in Belgium for our add on trip to the Dieppe
weekend

the ferry from UK to Spain is now eye watering but so is the cost of riding
down through France...

Not a bite, but an FYI. I've heard through the grapevine that there are
folk that think I make money out of doing this (and Col/TOG too). We
don't. We have always given up our own time and effort to organise
these runs.

Welcome to my world. My last, even approaching, long ride (on the ER6n)
was on the way back from TOG tour St Omer 2019 via 'the chateau' area
near Limoges. Peyrat back up to Chartres in the pissing rain almost all
on D roads with some N and tiny bit of autoroute wasn't much fun for my
hips, knees and arse.

Last day was Folkestone to home, immediate load up of the Forgotten
Error on to the trailer and down to Wiscombe hill climb in the Granvia.
My last event, as I decided I was so slow it was time to hang my
leathers up.

Consider it kicked. You are always welcome here, but as we just accepted
an offer on the house, 'here' may not be the 'here' you have been to
before. If all goes according to plan there will still be a guest
bedroom though.

FWIW, I presume those that suggest any of you have made anything out of
the runs are utter wankers who I would not want to associate with.

And as anyone who is aware of the cost of 2 nights (I presume it is
still 2) in a *decent* French gaff, with food will know that £230 is
very reasonable.

If, like me, when travelling you select "cheap as chips" then anything
over £30 for a night is seen as expensive, and cuts into the evening
"eat for £5' budget.

It was £310 one way (Spain/Plymouth) last Oct. And I weighed that up
against the cost of riding back thruogh France to Calais (and potential
weather) or spending more time in Spain. Decided it was an acceptable cost.

Heh. "All things are relative". I was actually last or last but one of
the entire entry, IIRC. Couldn't even get under 56 seconds. Back in 1981
I could regularly get into the 53s on a similar SO Morini 350. Four
decades of course knowledge only goes so far.

At least Simon has been getting progressively better personal bests,
though getting yet another bike is a good strategy for that - Personal
Best on This Bike.

I'm definitely not with the times - and, anyway, you do know that kids
don't really use FB, don't you? Apparently it's the middle-aged who
use it most

But anyway, I looked, and couldn't find anything from you on this
topic on the UKRM group. There's also groups called "UKRM French Run
2018" and "UKRM Run 2020" but nothing there either.

No doubt it's me, and my complete inability to work FB - but where is

I think I'm with the times, but searching facebook for UKRM bring back UKRM French Run 2018, UKRM Run 2020, UKRM and lot of Ukrainian dating pages.
At least the latter will keep me amused.

(I was 2 nights no ferret, as one is off on a little sub clique camper jaunt afterwards making my way from Newhaven-Dieppe).

Brooms and I will be on the 930am ferry from Newhaven on the Friday of the
weekend

Staying overnight in the White Horse in Rottingdean the night before if you
are camping near Newhaven and fancy a beverage.

We are also heading off on a jaunt on the Sunday. Overnight in Reims, 3
nights Buhlertal (Baden wine region) and 2 nights in Dinant on the way
home.

Stayed there about 6yrs ago whilst attending a wedding in Brighton.
Four of us in 2 doubles and it wasn't cheap. Might have changed since
but back then I thought it was the worst hotel ever. When they showed
us our room it smelt like it hadn't been used for years and was dank
and musty, even the huge dose of air freshener which somebody had
applied couldn't mask that. We opened the windows to try and improve

was about 2ft away. The next morning I was running a bit late so the
rest of the family went for breakfast while I finished showering.
Halfway through brushing my teeth I heard somebody trying to break the
door down followed by a key in the lock. I emerged from the bathroom
(with towel) to find the manageress and a couple of flunkies staring
triumphantly at a flashing red light above the door. She then proceeded
to accuse me of showering with the bathroom door open (which I hadn't).
I informed her that it wasn't my problem and if she didn't fuck off
sharpish I would be dropping the towel. They departed, I got dressed
and joined the others for breakfast only to hear "you just missed all
the fun, there was a fire alarm and they evacuated the whole hotel"
The staff were friendly but hopeless, I ordered an omelette for
breakfast and it took nearly an hour to arrive and even then it was
burnt and inedible.
The Plough, up in the village OTOH was excellent, both food and drink
were top class and the staff were great.

Yeah, we've always tried to make sure we get good VFM, otherwise folk
won't turn up.

BTW, I cannot remember, but are you up for this run or not?
