Halesowen man fined for driving too near cyclist

A HALESOWEN man has been fined for driving "exceptionally close" to a cyclist.

Paul Smith was hit with a court bill of £244 after he admitted driving without due care and attention.

Court documents state the 71-year-old, of Walmley Close, drove exceptionally close to a cyclist "with no apparent consideration for him as a vulnerable road user."

The offence happened on the A4036 Merry Hill road towards the junction of Coppice Lane, Quarry Bank, on September 9 last year.

Smith was fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 court costs and a £34 surcharge and three points were added to his driving licence when he was sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday March 22.
