We had one where he did it backwards at quite a high rate
so he got a decent bow wave at the back and only a much
lower water level at the front, worked fine.

Yeah, i'm not sure i'd drive through that not least as it is a notorious
spot. And given there's other cars abandoned in it!

But a few years ago we were staying in Bowness on Solway and on arrival
we ordered a takeaway from a gaff in Silloth which I went to collect,
roughly 1hr round trip.

It was hammering down and halfway there there was a road with a 'sump'
and I stopped the car, got out for a look and thought 'what the fuck do
I do here'.
No realistic alternative route, I decided to wing it, I don't know where
the intake is on a V50 but the headlamps were submerged so i'm wondering
if I only just got away with it.

In hindsight it was a terrible idea.

comes up about half way up the car doors. Most of the cars
see the engine stop in the deepest water. The 4WDs and the
Discovery all do fine.

It isn't that black and white. Certainly doesn't cover
driving your car into a tree deliberately because you
have discovered that it needs expensive repairs.

The better ones will do fine but may well float away if its deep enough.
