A man has been arrested after a cyclist was allegedly injured by a van driver in the Gosforth area of Newcastle on Monday morning.

Just after 9.15am, police received a report that a man riding a bike had been struck by a van on Princes Road just outside Brunton Park Health Centre. The cyclist was then allegedly assaulted by the driver and two other individuals. He was then taken to hospital with a suspected fractured ankle.

A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent.. He currently remains in police custody and enquiries remain ongoing into the incident.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 9.15am today (Monday), police received a report of a collision on Princes Road outside Brunton Park Health Centre. It was reported a male cyclist had been struck by a van before then allegedly being assaulted by the driver and two other individuals.

“The cyclist was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured ankle..

“Enquiries are ongoing and a 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent. He currently remains in police custody..

No! No! No!. The cyclist did not pay road tax and therefore caused criminal damage to the van by being run over. The law abiding van driver tried to help the cyclist and accidentally fractured his ankle. "It was just a momentary lapse of concentration".
