Dirty drivers yet again.

A SAUCHIE cyclist has voiced his frustration at dangerous fly tipping in Clacks which resulted in nails and screws being dumped on a busy road.

The man, who does not wish to be named, was out cycling earlier this month when he came across a number of items left on the edge of the road.

He told the Advertiser: “I was cycling down past Aberdona towards a junction.

“There was a car ahead of me and I wondered why it was stopping. Then it diverted around and when it did I could see there was rubbish all strewn across the road.

“I thought it was poor at the time but when I stopped and looked there was quite a lot of sharp nails and screws in amongst it.

“If a car had gone over it or it was in the dark it could have done serious damage.”

The rubbish was cleared up the next day before any serious damage was done.

The man continued: “When you see fly tipping usually it’s more [at] the side but this was in the middle of the road.

“I thought it was appalling.

“Most fly tipping is done on the side [of a road] and it’s just a pest for the people who have to clean it up.

“This was in the middle of the road. You get quite a speed on that road. It was probably okay because the other rubbish was amongst it.

“It could have done some damage.”

The incident was always condemned by Clacks Council, who called on people in the Wee County to make use of recycling facilities.

A council spokesperson said: "Fly tipping impacts our countryside, is a danger to wildlife and puts the health and wellbeing of our communities at risk.

“Leaving waste by the roadside can also create dangers for road users and emergency vehicles.

“Householders who have to dispose of bulky waste can either take it to our recycling facility, arrange a bulky uplift or organise for an authorised waste carrier to remove it."

At least they weren't dumped on a village green.

What about animals? Many thugs who have left nails on cycle paths have led to dogs getting injured.
These morons have no sense of responsibility.

Just look at this mess. Disgusting.

Just look at this mess, left by a fairy-cyclist.

Rather more disgusting than even a pile of DIY offcuts.

QUOTE: Consultation documents published by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs propose scrapping charges for getting rid of rubbish such as shed or fence panels, tiles, plasterboard and paving slabs.

Disposing DIY waste at council recycling centres in England and Wales will no longer incur fees under new government plans.

Existing legislation means that any rubbish generated through DIY, even at home, is generated as industrial waste, meaning local councils are not responsible for providing free disposal points.

This includes rubbish such as shed or fence panels, tiles, plasterboard and paving slabs.

Consultation documents published by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs propose scrapping charges for getting rid of such waste, with the hope that it could help reduce fly-tipping.

"Government believes householders should not be charged to dispose of DIY waste," it says.

"We are proposing changes to allow householders to deposit DIY waste for free.

"This will reduce the potential risk of fly-tipping, littering and backyard burning which create additional costs for local authorities and causes environmental issues."

Incidents of fly-tipping have surged in recent years, with more than one million recorded by local authorities in 2021, official figures show.

At the height of the first COVID lockdown, Sky News reported on how a smartphone app had also reported a huge increase in fly-tipping as people spent more time working on DIY projects at home.

Under the government's proposals, DIY waste would be re-classified as household waste, enabling it to be disposed without any charge like other rubbish and recycling.

Councils charge different amounts for getting rid of DIY waste, but the government believes its plans could save households as much as £10 per item.

The consultation is being held online and runs until 4 July.

Unfortunately not.

Merely from Google Images.

It'll look more or less exactly the same as fairy-cyclist droppings on
any village green.

It must have been some cyclists with large panniers. Surprising how much
can be carried.

Experience suggests that 'cyclists' and 'dumping' was a village-green
type of thing?

Perhaps they could dump in their panniers.

As, indeed, does the idea of a car being big enough for the same cargo.

Fairy-cyclists and "dumping" go together...

Some panniers - I saw a load of dumped double glazed windows today, which I have reported to NLCC as a good citizen should - not like the scum drivers who litter the countryside.

"Experience" does not come from something reported in a local rag 5 or 6
years ago.

Experience comes from cycling or walking along country roads and having
first hand sight of all the crap lining the edge of the road thrown out
by the occupants of motor vehicles. And to encounter some of their
"dumping" grounds.

> Perhaps they could dump in their panniers.

Perhaps motorists could put their rubbish back in the space they managed
to find to carry it before they took the contents out.

Of course it is. There are those here that think that a cyclist dropping
a sweet wrapper is a national scandal.

There was one troll that used to post here that insisted that the mountains of fag ends on the roads and verges were due to cyclists.

There aren't many cars that can accommodate fridges and intact kitchen
units. You're "thinking" of vans and small trucks but don't want to say so.

Fully agreed. And that applies to ALL road users, including those
fairy-cyclists in the habit of throwing away drink containers.

Hmmm... thy don't have to be that big. Pick-up trucks can carry loads
like that.

Be aware that fairy-cyclists (perhaps because they take an attitude that
they must shed excess load) are at least as bad as anyone else when it
comes to littering and possibly worse. Especially - as you are well
aware - on village greens...

But you want to pretend that fairy-cyclists are paragons of virtue,
which they are definitely NOT.

The main culprits are White Van Men - by definition.
Lots are fined for dumping trade waste which can be traced back to source.

QUOTE:
Flowers and tributes have been left at the scene of a North Lincolnshire crash where a man sadly died.

Police issued a statement on Saturday which said a child who was also in the vehicle was in a serious but critical condition at Leeds General Infirmary and a woman was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment for her serious injuries.

The crash happened on Friday night on the B1206 near Elsham when the car left the road and hit a tree.
Flowers and messages left at the scene of the crash

A number of messages from family and friends have been left at the scene, along with flowers.

A blue Ford Focus left the road between junctions with Middlegate Lane and New Street and collided with a tree.

Humberside Police were called to the scene by Humberside Fire and Rescue around 9.25pm.

Their crash investigation team is now trying to find out the circumstances of the crash, and are asking for anyone with information to get in touch.
The crash happened on the B1206 near Elsham

They are asking anyone who saw the collision or the car before the crash to call 101, quoting log number 629 of October 19. ENDS

THESE ITEMS WERE DISPOSED OF AS LITTER:

They'd have a nervous breakdown at the London Marathon aftermath!

QUOTE: London Marathon runners left 20 tonnes of litter on the route through the East End for road sweepers to clear — roughly two tonnes for each mile.

The 40,000 taking part dropped 100,000 disposable water bottles for Tower Hamlets Council’s army of 70 sweepers to pick up.

At one point mayor John Biggs joined the authority’s 10-hour “tidy up”.

“It’s important to get the clean-up right,” he said.. “But it was good joining our street cleansing teams to help out.”

The marathon from Greenwich to The Mall traditionally goes through Tower Hamlets more than any other London borough, which includes 10 of the 26.2 miles from the iconic Tower Bridge, looping round Canary Wharf and back to Tower Hill.

In an effort to reduce touchpoints because of Covid, runners this year were encouraged to wear bottle belts to carry drinks.

Marathon runners have raised more than £1 billion for good causes over the past 40 years, a fact which helped soften the blow of having to clean up copious amounts of throw-away containers.
