Yes you are quite right of course, a senior moment I fear. Maybe
because it is quite close to where the Steyning road joins the A27 ?

I was at the WHSFB from 1971-1978. The tail end of the 'Rugger and
Bugger with the best of 'em' era and you had masters in gowns trying to
cope with long-hair, Pink Floyd and Monty Python etc when they were
still reeling from the '60s.Can't say as I enjoyed it all that much.

I had a local authority scholarship to Haberdashers' Monmouth School as
there was no grammar school in the town. 1974-81

When I arrived the senior prefects wore fucking gowns. They were called
monitors and lizards would be a good synonym.

Fortunately, I was a dayboy. I did not enjoy my time there as there was a
definite social divide between the town boys and the direct grant types.
I did get a much better education, especially in science subjects so kept a
low profile. The alternative secondary modern school was pretty dire with
few subjects taught to O'level. Most were pushed towards CSE. They didn't
have a 6th form until it went comprehensive c1980.

I got a knee injury from rugger at 14 years that has plagued me forever.
Sadly, not a sniff of the buggery.
