I'm assuming that was ascii art, which of course sounds ridiculous in da
spoken word.
I often wondered who invented these symbols like@ $^&_ and the hash,
sometimes known as number.

Only plastic ones as when the dog grabs the china ones they tend to break.

As I recall, most flying saucers I've seen look a lot like American 1960s
cars hub caps being flung in the air. Apparently these days they don't look
like that any more, some are triangular and very big while others look like
glowing orbs.

One particular uk Freeview channel would have nothing to show if it were not
for all the stories around ufos.

# = *hatch*, not hash. Hash crapped-in along with big clunky phobiles
with people who didn't know what a cross-hatch was. Most early users of
phobiles were flock like used-car dealers who needed to impress others
with their opulence.

I I once saw such a being murching up and down the pavement outside his
array of tarted-up motors with one of they remote handsets for
tellingbones, rather obviously hoping people would think it was one of
these arj-fangled phobile moans.

I uster have one of those huge brick-like phobiles. I was on 24/7 emergency
call out and only Coastguard Stations had the number. They also kitted my
car out with a marine-band rajo, but never showed me how to use it. Didn't
matter - at night they'd normally just phone me at home, and daytime they'd
send a lad downstairs to my orifice from the the High Holbourn Coastguard
HQ during the day. During an incident I'd be in the local CG station
anyway, for the duration. The rajo and phobile were never used.

I knew a guy who was a computer journalist back in the 80s, he had
previously worked for BNf, British Nuclear Fuels and called himself a
physicist Anyway he had one of those luggable mobiles dangling from his
belt. He could not run as it kept hitting him in the leg.
It was the size and weight of a house brick.

Now the problem is that back in the day, I had a manual for a new telephone
system which was installed at Racal. It said the word was definitely Hash,
it used it and star a lot for command sequences to allow people to have
conference calls and camp on to engaged phones etc.
Definitely a hash not a hatch. #

I used to have a Rabbit. No the phone!
It was a cordless, but the range on that thing in the open was nearly a
mile!

To err is human. To really foul things up requires a computer and the BOFH.

Hash, hatch, octothorpe, sharp, pound - the only one that's not
commonly used IME is the proper name.

My first mobile when I were a-plumbing and heating was a full size
button dialphone stuck on top of a big black box that contained the
batteries and network receiver, with a three foot telescopic aerial
stuck on the side.

That were heavy too.
