As a test this morning, I ran it on battery only until it was down to
66%. Then plugged it in. Initially it stated it was plugged in but not
charging. After about a minute it then started charging.

So, it seems for me at least, that optimised charging doesn't really do
anything.

Well for me it generally sticks at 80% because I'm mostly WFH and on
mains. But if I'm travelling to an office I'll be using it on battery
for a bit and when I reattach power it'll charge up to 100%

So for me and my simple usage pattern it seems to work the way Apple are
saying.

I'm also mostly WFH in the mains.

I'm having the opposite experience. Weird?

Actually, noticed in a meeting today that it went into 'not charging'
mode and, last I looked, dropped to 96% charged. It went back up to 100%
fairly quickly after that.

So it is doing /something/...
