I'm afraid that I'm the bearer of some very bad news.
Last Thursday my Partner in Absentia Tash, and her friend Stasi left the
environs of Talne along with Stasi's Aunt Olga and attempted to get to
the border with Moldova and leave Ukraine behind. The they were not far
from getting safely into Northern Moldova when their car came under
attack and they all lost their lives.
Natasha Evgenyeyvna Arkangelskeyna Scherbineyna Tchebotareva, Anastasia
Volodiya Borsch and Olga Lyovusiya Kyzyma, three more innocent civilian
casualties of Putin's war of aggression.
PS Stasi as an Ukrainian friends name pronounced as stayzee not Starzi

I don't think Pedt and I ever encountered each other in ye shedde or
anywhere else nevertheless I find myself absolutely heartbroken by
this news.

However hard it is denied, Biden was right: Putin *must* be eliminated,
régime change or no. This has just become personal.

Gardiner" in it. he took over a group I used to like, and ruined it. I
might disagree with some here, but I will defend their freedom to say

I shivered this morning as I listened to the radio.

As I listened to the Today programme on the radio this morning (26 April
2023) I thought back to this posting and felt the same empathy for the
people I heard as they attempted to flee the fighting in Sudan. I do
hope that they escape successfully from a situation not of their
choosing and over which they have no control.

My own Grandmother must have had similar feelings as she escaped in
1917-1921 having to leave her family behind, of which we know nothing.
My Grandfather's family were unsuccessful in leaving in 1941 and paid
the price.

Some years ago, I attended a graveyard mass in a village nearby (Its an
Irish thing) and got in conversation with a lady who had married someone
I knew. She had been a nurse, and for some reason had volunteered for
overseas service in Sudan.

She arrived in Khartoum and was picked up by a 4wd belonging the the
Charity, driven to a place in Darfur, where she had the use of a hut. No
electricy, there was a fridge for stuff but with no current, everything
went off during the night, and she was reduced to providing 19th century
medicine. That was the time that tribal fighting was going there, but
the locals respected her, and knew she was doing what she could. She
eventually got home, but had an abiding hatred of the Charity, which I
will not name.
