I friend of mine is wanting to take in a refugee family (she has plenty of space
since her hubby died a couple of years back) but apparently she has to fill in
the forms for a *named* set of refugees, she doesn't do facething etc which is
where the council is telling her to find people.

I've said she could recruit her niece to find someone, but if anyone knows a
wibble where refugees and potential hosts can be matched-up, do let me know ...

There are zillions of refugees out there if she wants one. I have heard
personally of the conditions in the train stations in Warsaw, which are
not good, 4 stations, 4 toilets per station, and many people arriving
with unusually heavy tans.

b) The tbireazrag that got elected on the strength of its determination to
cut us off from (the rest of) Europe ?

c) someone who reckoned that it wouldn't cost The Taxpayer anything if they

It has been reported in the Daily Telegraph this lunchtime that the
charity Reset is now taking on the challenge of matching refugees to
hosts.

Matchmaking service for those seeking to host Ukrainians gets
government backing in wake of chaos

The charity Reset will run the service under the Homes for Ukraine
scheme to help end the need for families to link up on social media

The first Government-backed matchmaking service for Britons seeking to
host Ukrainian refugees has been launched to help end the chaos of
families linking up on social media.

Reset, a charity specialising in community sponsorship, has been
backed by the Government to run a matching, training and assessment
service to link up thousands of Britons with refugees under the Homes
for Ukraine scheme.

Until now, many Britons seeking to host Ukrainian refugees in their
homes have had to rely on social media or personal contacts to find
suitable families, leading to concerns over the trafficking and
safeguarding of vulnerable women and children.

On the first day for applications, Facebook groups were forced to
restrict the number of people seeking to host Ukrainian refugees after
the sponsorship scheme descended into a matchmaking frenzy.

Ukraine to Surrey

Ukrainian refugees seeking host families on social media received up
to 300 posts each offering rooms, as Britons vied to outbid each other
over the size of their houses and gardens, number of bedrooms, local
leisure facilities and the quality of the local countryside.

Reset has been piloting its matchmaking service over the past few
weeks, ready for today’s national launch. It has already registered
7,000 refugees and 8,000 households with space for more than 20,000
Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion.

Backed by £300,000 from Michael Gove’s Communities Department, it now
plans to scale up its service nationwide to bring together sponsors
and refugees and assess their eligibility and suitability for the
scheme.

The number of visas granted under the Homes for Ukraine scheme has
started to tick up and now stands at 4,700, out of 32,200 applications

It will also provide training and advice to sponsors and community
groups on issues such as claiming benefits, job seeking and finding
schools for refugee children.

Reset is promising a “rigorous” matching and assessment system for
sponsors and refugees by using its trained caseworkers, volunteers and
safeguarding experts.

“They will assess the sponsors’ intent, suitability, and availability
while checking that the accommodation they are offering is
appropriate. Sponsors will also need to complete an online mandatory
training programme before the matching process begins,” said the
charity.

“The matching team will also be carrying out assessments of the
refugees to understand their personal circumstances and if they have
particular ties to a place. The sponsorship scheme will not be right
for everyone, especially those suffering from severe trauma.”

Once the match has been made, the sponsors and refugees will submit a
visa application to the Home Office, which will remain responsible
with local councils for the formal vetting process.

More visas granted

The number of visas granted under the Homes for Ukraine scheme has
started to pick up and now stands at 4,700, out of 32,200 applications
submitted. More than 200,000 individuals and organisations have
registered an interest in opening their doors to Ukrainian refugees.

An additional 24,400 visas have been approved for Ukrainian refugees
under the family scheme, out of 32,800 applications.

Lord Harrington, the refugees minister, said: “The Prime Minister
appointed me to this job to facilitate safe and speedy passage of
vulnerable Ukrainian evacuees. I am delighted and grateful that Reset
are working with us to bring more people safely to the UK.”

Kate Brown, the chief executive of Reset Communities and Refugees,
said: “This is an extraordinary moment for the refugee welcome
movement in the UK.

“With 200,000 people signed up to offer their homes under the Homes
for Ukraine scheme, and hundreds of thousands more offering support,
we are in a position to help more refugees than ever before.

“We must make sure that there are fair and rigorous systems in place
to support the refugees and sponsors as they embark on this
programme.”

It comes after Interpol this week issued a warning that criminals and
people traffickers could exploit the social media groups being used
for matching as an “ideal source of information.”

“These social media platforms often contain detailed information about
the refugees (location, phone numbers, pictures) and their children.
Criminals may use these platforms to identify and contact potential
victims,” it posted in an alert.

“Another risk is that criminals are present themselves in reception
and accommodation centres as volunteers.”

There are also growing concerns that Ukrainian refugees are being
forced to register as homeless upon arriving in Britain either because
their relatives do not have enough space or their hosts fail home
safety and/or criminal record checks.

The refugees have been granted visas on the UK family scheme, but
their relatives in Britain do not have enough room to house them,
leaving councils to "pick up the pieces".

The Government hasn't made any extra funding available because the
Ukraine family scheme, opened on March 4, assumes the refugees will be
staying with relatives.

Oleksandr Polishchuk, a volunteer at Support Ukraine, which is based
in west London, said he had come across dozens of Ukrainians who have
arrived in recent weeks only to discover they have nowhere to stay.

In one case, a couple in their sixties with a 96-year-old mother came
to join their daughter under the family scheme, but could not fit into
her studio flat.

“She was already living their with her two young children. They went
there at first but it was unsustainable and unbearable,” he said.

“They picked up their bags and arrived at Victoria coach station and
were referred to us by police. They had nowhere to stay. They are now
being housed by the council.

“The Government issued a policy, but left implementations to the local
councils. The system is not in place. We are working with them closely
and trying to figure out solutions.”

Nobody. Having spent so much time and effort persuading us to hate
immigrants the tories find themselves unable to backtrack. So their
compromise is to tell people they can take in refugees while making it
impossible for them to actually do it.

there is a big difference between woman and children from a European
(ish) country ravaged by war and a group of mainly fighting age males
from countries who want to kill us .

Impossible?

In 2019 87% of adults could use the internet.

For the remaining 13% :-
Pop down to the library use their computers if you do not have your own.

Sign up to facebook using a made-up name that isn't obviously made up so
Rudolph Hucker is out but John Smith is in .

Leave NO information .
(any information you must leave just make it up)[1].

Voila access to FB and that dang form.

Never use FB again

Remember you only have to do this once so for something that is so
important, an hour out of your day isn't that much of a stress.

[1] A chap I follow on the internet was frequently asked his date of
birth (to check he was over 18 I suspect).
He used to use 1st Jan 1900 as that was where the list to pick from
