Likewise.

I think the skill needed to play drums is perhaps under-appreciated. I
tried a few times, could just about manage two hands working kinda
together, but I just _cannot_ hold a different beat with my feet, even
one foot, no matter how I try.

So however justified the jokes may be, I can't help but have respect
for drummers, and of course a _good_ drummer is often the very heart
of a good rock group.

Absolutely. Most drummers (like bass players) are good enough for the
job - but some are exceptional. I would not count myself among the
latter - but I am always wanting to get better. Not everyone is :-/

I could imagine. In Tibet they drink butter tea, that is tea with yak
butter and salt, couldn't relate to that either. Tastes differ I

I've played bass, guitar, keyboards, and kazoo [1], and on one occasion
trombone [2]. I keep to backing vocals after an ill-advised spell as
lead vocalist 35 years ago.

[1] While playing bass, just as a substitute for the horn section in
"Geno" and the whistling solo in "Walk like an Egyptian"

[2] Went to see a friend's band. The trombone turned up but the
trombonist didn't, so they asked for a volunteer to play it. Never
averse to a challenge, I played trombone for the first time in my life,
all the way through the gig.

I can get as far as playing a very basic beat but it all goes completely
to pot if I try any sort of fill. I keep meaning to find out where SWMBO
has stowed my electronic kit so I can see if I can improve. It's so much
easier programming it in MIDI...

SWMBO plays the Bohdran, (as well as guitar and whistle - not at the
same time!).

Proper 'double ending' fast rhythm stuff.

We used to go to pub sessions where every other folkie in the room
seemed to be playing one. Always ended up with 'South Australia' -
featuring a Sandy Nelson type "let there be Bohdrans" solo by one player
that was at least reasonably accomplished.
