Is is possible buy Microsoft Office outright anymore, or do you have to
pay an annual fee?

**Yep. I refuse to rent software. I don't rent my TV set, my car, or my
toaster. I will not rent software. I purchased MS Office 2019 from these
guys:

https://softwaredepot.co/

I read a Microsoft review extolling the virtues of Office 2019 and
thought: "This is a good thing." Of course, MS reckon Office 2019 is now
a bucket of shit. It's not. It's quite a decent package and you can own it.

The download process and registration is a bit tiresome, but the
software works a treat and, much as I hate to admit it, much nicer to
use than Libre Office.

I've just changed over to MSoft365 and I have to pay an annual fee.

You can keep the older stuff, but eventually it won't be supported.

Adobe is going the same route, so hang on to any stuff like PShop etc.

In fact this seems the trend everywhere...:-(

I'll keep using my copy of Office Enterprise 2007 that I got for $35 by
working for a M$ partner. I haven't seen anything in the newer versions
that make me want to update.

I saw "the ribbon" and decided I definitely didn't want to update
:).

I'm mainly using individual Linux programs for different "office"
tasks rather than a single office suite anyway. Libre Office does
help for dealing with those evil people who send documents in M$
formats.

It cost around/over $1000 used it for years had everything only used
it on one computer DX386.
They wanted me to scan the CD cover and post it, never kept it, just
threw those clanky containers away and kept my DVD's in
sleeves/envelopes

I know this also happened to others
