step 1 is easy, pulling down the little lever and then locating the short
tab in its place.

The bigger tab just needs wiggling and a whack to get it to snap into
place.

I have had 4 helmets with the same mechanism and have yet to break one
despite some breaking type noises. I now associate the noise with
reassurance the thing is in place.
