I havent got a top box for the R1200RS I bought last year.
It has a std. BMW mount already. The original BMW top boxes are a
ridiculous price (£250+ secondhand), so although they would be a better
integrated fit, I think I'll be looking elsewhere, as they can be bought
for less than that new from other makes.
The Shad 58X gets good reviews, at £230, but may be a little large, The
same version in 39 litres could be the one, though further research is
required.
Any recommendations for others?
Givi?

the base plate is the SRA5117 and takes 5 mins to fit once you realise you
take off the centre, metal plate on the OE rack

I am still using a Givi E45 Monokey box bought from someone on here over 20
years ago. Sorby URed it to Malvern and I met him there. Next time I met
him he was part of my extended family, having knocked up my niece!

As it happens, I do have an old Givi large box here (currently on FB
marketplace for £30), I did try it on the BM, but it just didn't look or
feel right, it was hanging over the back too much, once moved forward, it
impeded the pillion.
It's a big one, so I thought I'd go for something a little smaller,
which, at the moment is looking like this one:
<https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/392926>

£135 ish with the mounting plate which takes off the BMW top plate. I can
probably adjust the key/lock so I can use one key for my (present) Shad
panniers and (new) top box.
The expandable ones seem a good idea, but are expensive, and I'm not sure
I'd benefit from reducing their size, it'd be at maximum size all the
time, so the benefits would be lost.

yes, with the base plate included that is good and Shad have a very good
reputation

I have several Kappa/Givi Monokey cases in various sizes so stick with Givi
as long as there is a fitting kit for each bike I buy. With the E45 topbox
I use a couple of E21 side cases which are narrow enough to allow most
filtering. Enough space for 2 weeks away as one E21 case is mostly taken up
with the CPAP!

I bought a set of 3 Givi locks so just need one key for all of the boxes.

I use the same combination on the T120 (I also have a pair of E45s for
use as panniers should we go somewhere where we want to take a lot of
luggage and aren't so bothered about filtering).
