Where do you buy ammonia on the high street? Is it even legal to buy it?

I mean pure ammonia, not the "household ammonia" which is very diluted
ammonia with all sorts of perfumes. I need it to take the stench off my
neighbour's dogs shitting and pissing at my doorsteps.

The strongest ammonia solution is called 880 ammonia, so-named because
that's the density of the highest strength solution that ammonia will
form in water (35%). Specialist chemical laboratory suppliers sell it,
for example Fisher Scientific https://tinyurl.com/2jtktb2k . But it's
nasty stuff, not for the amateur to splash around on their doorsteps,
for example, see the hazard list on the Fisher advert.

Have you actually tried 'household ammonia' that you're so disparaging
about, or even household bleach?

I have found that ordinary bleach stops dogs from shitting, I used the
thick stuff. It wasn't a double-blind trial, and of course, rain will
wash it away.

Anything with a strong smell, to over-ride the scent of the last dog to
be there, will work.

+1 for bleach to get rid of Urine smells. if the thing the urine is on
can take it.
Brickwork is fine. Grass and lawn not so much.

But bleach will degrade organic compounds and destroy the smell not just
override it

As indeed will febreze, but you need a lot of it for a pile of Urine

We had a ‘dog problem’ in a flowerbed in our front garden. After I cleared
away 43 piles of dog crap, I covered the area thickly with chopped onions,
garlic granules, and pepper. You could smell this 100 yards away. So could
the dogs…who never crapped there again.

Whatever you choose to do, go in hard in order the break the psychological
link in the dog brain between the need to pee or crap, and your doorstep,
in one go.

Choose a period of forecasted dry weather, so your biowarfare won’t get
washed away too soon.

If you piss on your doostep yourself, that will keep the bodgers away. Not
sure about dogs.

We’ll really, you had a ‘dog owner problem’. Someone local must have either
knowingly let their dog crap in your garden or just let their dog roam.
Glad you’re sorted though.

I liked the story of a guy who lived alongside a "passage" through a terrace of houses. Dogs used to piss on the corners at each end and this caused a stink. He cured the situation with a floor pad of wire netting and wire netting strips tacked to the wall. Wires run inside via a convenient window from each to an induction coil with a battery and momentary switch. Whenever he spotted a dog marking the spot through the window he would click the switch. He reckoned no dog came back for a second blast of electricity up the todger.

Ammonia is a gas - might disperse a bit and could kill you.

More likely to be the neighbourhood cats. Down my road I'm one of the

Around my way anything close to the doorstep is likely to be the urban
fox. That has a smell all of its own - but only noticeable if you step
in it and transfer it indoors.

Indeed. For a while I thought the turdlets I round on the decking (for
level access for SWMBO) at the front of our house was dogs on a long lead.

A fall of snow and some googling footprint images showed it was foxes.

Similar problem here, but my own dog habitually doing it by my garden
gate. I read a suggestion of mustard, or vinegar. I tried it a week ago
and so far, it seems to be dissuading the habit.
