I was wondering why it took so long, then I remembered that it was the
Daytona and you had to get the fairing lower off. Took me 10-15 minutes
on the two Tridents and the Tiger (but longer on the Daytona 900). Once
replaced, the new ones didn't fail (IIRC, around 20k was the magic number).

I had a Trophy 1200-4 for a little while. Did about 35mpg if I was
lucky. The 900s were far more economical, they all did around 50mpg (the
same as my first T140V Bonnie as it happens).

Yup, about 20k every time it died. Bought with ~17k miles, sold 3 years
later with 78k. :) Paid $2000, sold for $1500 USD. Still have a NIB CPS
in the parts cabinet.

Had a 95 Trophy 1200 with Givi luggage too. Started the love affair with
early Hinckleys for me.

The Daytona had its moments. I saw 140 mph for the first time on two
wheels. The BlackBird rider following me was duly impressed.

There was one tank in Kansas headed up to meet MarkO in Sturgis that lasted
just an hour. It was a very fast three digit hour!

Just to be 100% clear. I have been to Sturgis, and the Black Hills,
many times. But I have never been, and God willing, never will be,
an attendee of the eponymous rally held there in August of every year.

The Black Hills are one of my favorite places on earth and favorite
places to ride. Devil's Tower (which is adjacent to, but not strictly
located in the Black Hills per se) has to be my personal mecca. Having
to share it with hundreds of thousands of pirate wannabees on loud
piped bikes is not my idea of a good time.

I don't remember meeting you in Sturgis although we certainly were
riding there together on the 2012 trip where the Daytona ate its
CPS. Are you referring to the time we met up in Yankton SD, then
high-tailed it across the border to Nebraska?

GL1800 ones are behind a single screw plug on the front engine cover.

It plugs into the loom underneath the air filter housing.

Which is under the airbag.

Which is under the "shelter" - the bit of fairing hat goes from the
dash, to the back of the tank, and down in front of you knees.

Turns a five minute job into a four hour one.

Unless it coincides with a recall for the airbag inflator.

Apparently the old ones inflated so fast they resembled a grenade,
with all the accompanying hilarity that such an eventuation suggests.

That’s the trip. Your son and you met me at the campground in Yankton and
we proceeded from there to have a wonderful tiding trip.
