If you are going to get most of the power from the battery anyway might as well toss 20% and go electro hydraulic series hybrid. A 2 kW hydraulic motor would weigh ~ 100 gms and you never need to screw around with chains and belts. It could also power adaptive active suspension for a nice smooth ride.

If you aren't going to be a purist -- I recently told Eviation to go 50-50 electric-fuel or set things up for that aftermarket -- you might as well go all the way. "No one is more carnal than the recent virgin."

(In reality I still enjoy pushing the pedals on the old hybrid.)
