Maybe so but that doesn't explain their technical issue with 5G that no
one else is having unless its an imagined problem.

Imagined problems are easier to fix than real ones.
And just have to look like one is fixing something.
Then every one goes away happy.
After paying through the nose for "fixing" it.

Only the Irish Leprignomes have remained aloof and their family
heritage remains pure and unconfused. Gnome watchers believe that the
reason for this stems from the unfortunate events that led to their
expulsion from the peat bogs of Ireland in the late 1700s. It is
thought that the ambitious Leprignomes encroached on the territorial
boundaries of the intellectually superior Leprechauns. The Grand
Legislature of Leprechauns banished the ringleaders of this audacious
uprising to Australia. As a parting gesture they cast such a powerful
spell on the Leprignomes that, even today, they remain too shy to
associate with other gnome species.

Also Mr Google has a split up of what countries use what frequencie bands for 5G. It would seem that the USA uses more in the higher frequencies, and therefore closer to the radio altimeter band.

Not really. While he explains the problem, he is
hopeless about explaining microwave interference
and cant even get the basics with mobile base station
locations right either. No point in considering where
the current 3G and 4G bases are, 5G bases will be
much more common and located differently.

I watched that some time ago and its why I had heard of the problem.

> Also Mr Google has a split up of what countries use what frequencie bands for 5G. It would seem that the USA uses more in the higher frequencies, and therefore closer to the radio altimeter band.

Possibly I wrongly assumed that all 5G used the same frequencies all
over the world, if it does cause interference the logical solution would
be change the 5G frequency.

The problem in the US is that there isn't just one frequency
for 5G and the FCC are proposing to sell a new band closer
to the radio altimeter band to the telecoms industry there.

IMO the problem is being radically overhyped given that there
hasn’t been any problem observed in real life world wide.

Not a bad plan to be pro active and warn pilots to be aware of potential
problems as long as they don't blow it out of all proportion.

That doesn’t work with that new band that isn't in use yet.

The shit fight is about whether it will be a problem.

The term "5G" is more of an advertising buzzword than anything else.

There are multiple frequency bands used for cell service in
each country. Newer phones accommodate more bands than old ones.
While existing bands will be migrating from 4G/LTE to 5, the C
band's initial use would be with 5G.

It's a mess. The cellco's have billions to spend on this
spectrum, and lobby for it. From a EE standpoint, after-the-fact
filters for the radar altimeter come with their own tradeoffs.

The straightforward solution is for the cellco's to fork over
to develop resistant RA's, and pay for the existing base to be
replaced. Needless to say, they will lobby hard to not do so.

Bullshit. The technology is very different to 3G and 4G.

You don’t know that that is needed.

Because we don’t know that that is needed.

It is over hyped, unless you live in a city, you're never going to see
the speeds that are quoted. To get them you'd need to be on a C band
connection and you aren't going to see them outside of the cities. Most
5G connections will be in the existing S band or lower.

My nephew, an electrical engineer in charge of a team who design
whatever it is they design for the 5G towers, tells me that essentially
is at this point of time, "5G" is really an "enhanced 4G" in many
locations.

Just passing that on, no idea of the veracity. But he has more work
than he can poke a stick at.

I'd be pretty unimpressed if my multi ten-thousand dollar radio
altimeter could not distinguish between its own signal and one at least
200 MHz away that is not even a submultiple.

Selective filters come with costs. Sensitivity is one, delay is
another.

Space may be a third. One engineer pointed out that earth
stations on nearby frequencies were fixable a 7" long waveguide
filter, but even that costs you 1.3dB & fitting one under the
GA panel might be difficult.

That's fine with modern aircraft but there are plenty of 20+ year old
ones around whos equipment may not be built to the same specs.
