This morning that transmitter has a recording saying it cannot broadcast
programs due to an engineering fault.
I don't know where that transmitter is but it does seem odd that they have
no way to obtain a feed of the program in these days of satellites and the
Internet.

It's short wave. They will feed it by carrier pigeon.

I bet that joke is from a Christmas cracker then.

Seriously even many moons ago when HCJB Ecuador actually transmitted on
short wave they had a microwave link and a sat receiver to back it up, cos I
read it at the time.
No I expect the cleaner unplugged it to do some vacuuming.

In my day, the BBC used special plugs for tech mains to prevent just that.

Were those the ones with the t shaped earth pin? I did come across a kind of
U clamp which you put across the top once which secured via two extra long
screws to the box screwholes.

I think those are the ones. The London Underground uses what looks at
first glance like a standard 13 amp plug, but the pins have all been
turned at right angles to the normal way.

In my time there, D&S which were round pin 13 amp, with the fuse being the
live pin. Then changed to Walsall gauge - similar to current 13 amp but
with all the pins turned round by 90 degrees.

Other broadcast companies didn't use a 13 amp equivalent - after all not
much portable tech equipment needs 13 amps. So EP4 and XLR LNE were used.
Then PowerCon.

We sometimes came across that sort - had a T-shaped earth pin as I
remember - often in power stations or specialist environments on office
supplies that were protected and/or running from a UPS. Must be 20+
years since I last saw such.

Yes that is fine but not any good to stop them coming out. You need a latch.
