I haven't heard yet whether he's lodged another appeal, but given that
it's Friday night and the first round of the tournament starts on Monday
I don't like his chances of being part of it even if he wins.

If he loses and gets booted out my understanding is that he can't come
back for another 3 years by which time he'll have probably retired and
we won't see him again.

What a shame :)

It seems to be, and it's not hard to understand why in a city that holds
the world record for Covid lockdown. But at the end of the day I don't
think the authorities really have any choice. He got off in his first
appeal due to a technicality of not being afforded due process but that
had no bearing on whether his visa application was valid. It clearly
isn't, and the law is the law. he now must be deported, as there can be
no valid grounds on which to appeal that he made a false declaration and
to grant him the right to stay in spite of it would indeed be affording
him special privilege.

Some people will still need to answer questions over this when it's all
over. Principal amongst them will be the official who denied the due
process in the first place, but also Tennis Australia who seems to have
exceeded their authority with regards to "medical exemptions".

I also find it funny that some people are declaring this to be a
"political stunt", when in fact the politics involved in this whole
affair has been minimal at best :)
