I discovered that the trackday at Snetterton thaw as "weeks away" was
actually next week. I had planned to get the 10R MOT'd and given
myself a shakedown to blow off the cobwebs, but no chance of that, so
it'll have to do with an oil change and maybe the brake pistons
getting a clean.

Before that though, on Saturday I should finally find out whether a
new front tyre, oil & filter change, new C+S and clean air filter
<cough: a bit neglected> will turn me into an MX riding god. Place
bets now.

Yes, June is here. That was a shock, I though it was February still. Off
on the bike up to North/East Yorks. to see Puffins and Gannets tomorrow.
2 birds I've never seen, and have always wanted to.
No foreign bike trips/holidays this year as we're moving house in late
Autumn, though a 2 night break in Belgium may be on, to top up the beer
and wine stash, as I have some Eurotunnel credit from 2 years ago.

Haha. It will feel better. And will give you a psychological boost.

....aaand done. Oil change without doing the filter as well, seeing as
it's only seen one year and a thousand miles or so. Chain cleaned and
lubed; mirrors and number plate off and brake lever guard on.

Glad I checked the brakes: couple of pads were well down. As a
hoarder, luckily I was able to swap out the worst ones with some
acceptable ones I'd kept. Only slight concern is that I've matched
them to the discs. One pair for sure: another... not so.

This time, I didn't bother marking them up, and of course dropped a
pair, then picked up another pair without checking which way round I'd
(very carefully) put them. Luckily the older ones were marked up, so
one pair definitely went on the right sides of the right disc, just on
the front instead of the rear piston. I'm mainly concerned about them
running hot until they bed in, but the lever feels good and firm, so
hopefully I made a reasonable mix 'n' match.

I even gave it a clean.

Puffins are very tame and you can get some really close shots. Buggers
to photograph on the wing though.

Don't you wrap them in masking tape and mark both the caliper and
which pad is 'out' and which is 'in'?

And then 15 or so years later wonder why you've a drawer full of fucked
pads for bikes you don't own any longer? Still, you never know.

I've just done the calipers on my R1200 so I've added 8 pistons and 16
seals to my collection of 'brake parts'. I know I'll never use them since
I decided they were too fucked to use now and they aren't going to
miraculously heal... Still, can't throw them away, they must be worth
good money.

It's only a matter of time until I need to build another shed.

I'm not so concerned about this - especially on my daily bikes.

Obv, I try to keep them in sets but if I end up mixing and matching
(like you have by reusing "acceptable" pads) it doesn't take long for
them to bed in to the discs.

I have two sets of le Mans type wheels if anyone needs them...
