I'm sure Alan is wanting to know.

On 11/15/2021 I bought a 16" Mac M1. It failed, totally bricked, 2 weeks later. It was returned to the local Apple store for a full refund.

About a week later, and after hours of research, I bought a Dell 9510 with 2 TB SSD, 32GB RAM, i9 processor and HD screen.

So far, over 4 months later, it has not bricked. I did have short online session with Dell tech service to clear up a minor video playback issue. Other than that it's been trouble free - so far.

I bought the i9 option knowing it's heat production/power use reputation. All very true. It gets hot and the battery life is about 4-6 hours, less if you are doing heavy video work. It even warms up playing YouTube videos, but according to the Core Temp app when rendering a video file the CPU cores hit 200 F. That's hot.

So it's not ideal for producing my YouTube channel videos. I may shift over to iMovie on the iPad for that even though that software is not as capable as the Windows app I'm using.

Otherwise I'm a happy camper. The video quality is outstanding on the PC and my HD Dell monitor. The XPS's build quality is excellent, it's the same size and weight as the 16" Mac, and all my peripherals work great with the 3 onboard USB C/Thunderport/DisplayPort ports. I did need to buy a new cable for my old 10 port hub. I also invested in a new Logitech Bluetooth keyboard/mouse because the Logitech set I had used the Unifying Receiver that come only in the USB A flavor. All that cost about $80. I'm still a few hundred ahead of the Mac's cost. Not a big deal, but I'm able to run native W11 and don't miss any of the Mac's apps.

I'd say that software you actually use is the more capable.

Wish I had better luck with Dell. Bought a 9710 17 in 4K with a
beautiful display and Face ID login that worked nice - without requiring
a notch. Problem is it ran so hot that battery life was at most 4
hours on a good day, and the fan sounded like a hair dryer. Failed in
5 days so returned. The only area it was ahead of Apple on was the
absolute excellent integration of Face ID with no notch at all.

Sorry to hear about the Dell. It was not heat that killed the Mac. Probably something to do with one of the first off the line. The Dell heat issue is worrisome but not a deal killer. I bought the 3 year care package. If it fails I’ll get it fixed then sell and buy different. If it lasts 3 years it will be good for a while longer.
