Hey, they're making a "City Skylines II"! What a surprise! Aren't you
excited?

Well, the fact that they're making a sequel to one of the most popular
city-builder games in recent history isn't really that surprising. Of
COURSE they'd do that; it would make them lots of money, and who
doesn't like money? But I guess it's close enough to being done that
the publishers felt it was safe to make an announcement about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdD66WGBVHM . So there's a little
surprise about that.

But, honestly, I don't really care that much about the game itself.
I'm sure it'll be great, and I'll eventually buy it and have a lot of
fun with the game. Yay for "City Skylines II!" More? Yes please. But
here's the thing: I'm far more excited about the implications of what
this release means than what it actually says.

Because if "City Skylines II" is soon to hit market, then that means
"City Skylines: The Original" is 'done'. Which means no more DLC being
released in a seemingly endless stream to nickle-n-dime the customers.
Which means there is probably a "Game of the Year" or "Ultimate"
edition (or whatever they want to call it) that will roll up the first
game and all the DLC into one convenient package at one convenient
price.

And THAT'S what I'm excited about. Because - as much as I loved the
original "City Skylines", I fell of the wagon a long time ago because
I didn't want to keep paying and paying and paying just to get all the
expansions.

(I already do that sort of nonsense with the "Euro Truck / American
Truck Simulator" games. I have to draw the line somewhere. Even /my/
wallet has limits ;-)

But if they sell the grungy old first "Skylines" game with all the
expansions for $40 or so? Yeah, I'm back on the wagon again.

So, release soon please, "Cities Skylines II". But I'm saving my heart
- and my money - for the inevitable "complete" version of your
predecessor.

Wow! A ray-traced CGI vignette rendered over several hours? I'm hyped for
the GOTY too, because that told me absolutely zero.
