What is the result of:

perl -e 'use GD;'

on your system?

Compared to this one that will produce an error:
perl -e 'use xx;'

Do you have the p5-GD FreeBSD package installed?

What do these lines contain in your configure output?

checking for Perl version 5.004_03 or later... /usr/local/bin/perl
checking for Perl module Encode... yes
checking for Perl module GD... yes
checking for Perl module MIME::Parser... yes

libabsl_synchronixation was the issue.
