How far back can iOS devices support iOS 16 today?

Changing the subject won't change Android security update support exceeded
that of iOS long ago which is easily shown by Apple's own recent admission.

Apple clarifies security update policy:
New document confirms what security researchers have known for years.
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/10/apple-clarifies-security-update-policy-only-the-latest-oses-are-fully-patched/

You don't even know how iOS is upgraded/updated, let alone how Android is.

The only iOS that is fully patched is iOS 16.

I think that the idea is that the folded phone is less vulnerable to the
screen breaking if dropped. But the high cost of these folders makes
them a niche item.

Personally, for a work device I'd prefer the Microsoft Duo 5G, which is
just as expensive as the Samsung folder. If Apple comes out with a
folding iPhone I hope they include Apple Pencil capability. Apple needs
to be cautious about not affecting iPad sales if they come out with an
iPhone that has a screen as big as an iPad Mini.

no they don't. apple doesn't compete against itself. apple is happy if
someone buys either one (or even better, both).

Agreed. And maybe you can give the same advice to a long list of the
other trolls posting here like nospam, Jolly Roger, Your Name, etc..
Since most of us have filtered them out it's not a huge issue, but they
might be more likely to stop trolling if they used their own name.

Assuming nospam & Steve want to carry on a meaningful conversation where
each adds value to the group intelligence as a whole...

There are indications that Apple is doing rather well in both PC and tablet
sales which would indicate that Apple is appealing to its target base.

*Apple tops tablet and PC sales worldwide in Q1 2022*
<https://appleinsider.com/articles/22/05/04/apple-tops-tablet-and-pc-sales-worldwide-in-q1-2022>

New research claims that Apple's Mac range was the best-selling computer in
the first quarter of 2022, and the while iPad sales declined, it still led
the market.

Shortly after reporting that the iPhone was the sole smartphone to see
increased sales in Q1 2022, research firm Canalys says Apple is also
leading the market in computers and tablets.

"In the total PC market (including desktops, notebooks and tablets)," the
company reported in an email to AppleInsider. "Apple took first place from
Lenovo as it shipped 22.3 million units in Q1 2022, up 1% annually."

"Second-placed Lenovo saw a year-on-year decline of 12%, shipping 21.1
million devices worldwide," it continued. "HP's shipment of 15.9 million
units placed it third as it also underwent a significant decline of 18%."

Canalys says that these figures come as the overall global PC market,
including tablets, fell 3% year over year. The company claims that consumer
and education demand contributed to this, with Chromebooks dropping 60% to
4.9 million units.

Over the same period, the overall tablet market slipped 3% to 38.6 million
devices.

"Apple, in first place, saw a 2% fall in shipments in Q1 as it shipped 14.9
million iPads worldwide," says Canalys. "Second-placed Samsung also posted
a 2% decline for a total of 7.9 million tablets shipped."
"For the first time in over a year," continued the company, "Amazon
surpassed Lenovo to take third place with a growth of 3% on the back of
heavy discounting of its Fire tablets."

Canalys agrees with Apple that iPad sales were down in part because of
supply constraints. It says that demand from Q4 2021 had been expected to
extend into Q1 2022, but the current supply situation is likely to remain
into Q2.

Most of that "long list of the other trolls" is likely the same person.
Nonetheless...

For a long time, only Snit, Alan Baker and RodSpeed were in my killfile,
which, admittedly, is a PITA to administer since I don't use a newsreader.

After decades of posting to Usenet, I have only had to edit my killfile a
handful of times (e.g., to add the "Hank" nym which I think is Steve).

However, recently, due to "philo" and "ken blake" and "rweiser" nym trolls,
I've been forced to revisit my (admiteddly kludgey) killfile process.

Hence, if anyone here wants to be included in _my_ killfile, just say so.

That way none of you have to "suffer" technical acumen such as this:
*What steps do you perform on your phone expressly for privacy purposes?*
<https://groups.google.com/g/comp.mobile.android/c/Wbgaq5x5Zb8>

Where you can continue to "enjoy" everything of 'value Alan Baker posts.

Everyone wins, right?
a. None of you trolls have to suffer any technical discussions, and,
b. The rest of us don't have to see me refute your insufferable drivel
Works both ways.
A. You'll remain clueless morons who are on Usenet for your amusement
B. While the adults can be edified with astute technical content

Just let me know whom to put in _my_ killfile and we'll all be happier.

Hi nospam,

I study those in this newsgroup who are worthy of my attention to detail.

You and Steve are quite different from the uneducated unintelligent iKooks.
a. You defend Apple to the death, no matter what,
b. While Steve presents a far more balanced view of Apple
(Yet, in terms of Verizon, Steve does what you do with Apple.)

Yet, unlike the rest of the iKooks, there actually is sometimes productive
merit in your conversations, as there is with Steve's technical content.

Both of you, in different ways, add technical value to these discussions.

However, for you to accuse sms of "ad hominem attacks" reeks of duplicity.
Almost every accusation you make of others, is a projection of yourself.

If you stuck with technical content, you wouldn't be an iKook after all.
It's not your fault.

Due to your enslavement to the Apple deity, you desperately feel the need
to accuse everyone not enslaved of all the duplicity you own on your own.

aka... *Projection*

The most important and most effective thing to do to stop trolling is
killfiling the trolls. If everyone killfiled a troll, nobody would
reply to him, and he would soon get bored and go away.

That doesn't stop real trolls.

Doesnt happen. Look at Peeler. That pathetic wretch responds to
every single post of some he has it in for, hardly anyone is ever silly
enough to reply to any of his posts and most do have him killfiled
but he has been doing that continuously for almost a DECADE now.
