Thanks for the tip. The HDD has bee written to many times already.
I did find that I had backed up my passwords elsewhere, as well as my
favorite program. So will have to live with the loss. I used Truecrypt
for years without a hitch. It is truly disgusting that Veracrypt can
screw up like this.

Welcome to the club. When I tried out Veracrypt I made sure I left
my Truecrypt volumes intact. Veracrypt worked for about a week or
two and then went bye-bye.

Truecrypt has worked for years and years for me, and nothing points
to it being "broken" yet.

As far as I'm concerned, Veracrypt, even if it's software works, has
to prove itself over time to not be "broken" by hackers/governments,
etc.
