You should keep a copy of the recovery key.

https://onedrive.com/recoverykey # requires MSA login
# good idea to store in your computer room
https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/finding-your-bitlocker-recovery-key-in-windows-6b71ad27-0b89-ea08-f143-056f5ab347d6

https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/ht506425-unexpected-bitlocker-recovery-screen-thinkpad-ideapad-ideacentre

That is what you might use, if doing an offline recovery,
such as plugging the drive into some other computer.

There's a tutorial for removing encryption while booted, but you notice
that Brink did not try to do this to his C: drive. Most of the
examples are data drive F: .

It's quite easy to turn off Bitlocker for any and all drives and does not even
require a reboot.

For 99% of users, encryption is a stupid nuisance and should be disabled
before anything useful is done on the computer.
