Did you know you can get free games with Amazon Prime? Of course you
know; I've only been reminding you all about this for over a year. But
here's another reminder: you get "free games" (if you pay for Amazon
Prime). This week you can get:

* Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D
This is an old game, but it's a great one. It took the best parts of
the otherwise forgettable "Shadows of the Empire" title (namely, it's
vehicle sections) and made it into its own game. As a fan of the
X-Wing series, I was initially very disappointed by "Rogue Squadron" -
the game lacks a lot of the complexities of the older DOS titles - but
taken as a simpler arcade shooter, it's quite fun. It had amazing
visuals back in 1998, and while it has definitely aged, it's still
good looking today (the biggest flaw is its too-close view range, with
the levels shrouded in fog to maintain framerates). It's a must have
for any Star Wars fan, and a fun game if you love arcade-sims.

* Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge
Yup, another NeoGeo port. Look, I love these games just because the
platform was so ahead of its time, and its games have held up
surprising well. That said, if you're not a fan of tournament fighters
(which, admittedly, I am not either), "Samurai Shodown 4" isn't going
to convince you otherwise. It's a fair game but it's not really
outstanding in its class. Me, I'm just glad these games (and their
platform) are getting another chance to show off its stuff.

* Super Sidekicks
On the plus side, this is yet-another-NeoGeo game. On the downside,
it's a sports game (football/soccer). It's an okay game for its type,
I suppose - much more arcade than recent FIFA titles, that's for sure
- but the whole genre just isn't something I enjoy. Still, it has
pretty cool graphics for a game released thirty years ago...

Three up, three down. None of them are "must have" games, but they're
all of them good (if old) titles that are fun to play, if you give
them a chance. They're happy additions to my library. Are they part of
yours?

Sadly not, although - if you've been paying attention to the weekly
Epic give-aways - you probably have "Squadrons", since Epic offered it
as a freebie in November 2022.

"Squadrons" is a nice balance between the classic "X-Wing" series and
"Rogue Squadron"; not quite as complex as the former, not as
simplistic as the latter, it's 'just right'.

(Well, okay, truth be told I /still/ prefer the original X-Wing
games... but Squadrons is pretty good too. ;-)

Just noticed that Lake is now available so if you like walking sims (I
do) then it's worth a look.
