Seems like, despite protestations by certain trolls, Tom's Guide seems
to think that this chip was designed by Apple...

....and that it is AWESOME:

'Meanwhile, the M1 also blows away most Windows laptops on performance,
both in so-called Universal apps that take full advantage of Apple
Silicon and older programs that run on Apple’s Rosetta 2 software to
make them compatible. That was a key ingredient to making Apple Silicon
viable on Macs.'

All Apple designs are crap (they can't even fab their own chips).
Apple can't even design a modem. Everything Apple makes is stolen crap.
All Apple can do is use buy all its IP from ARM and TSMC and Qualcomm.

And besides Apple making only crap, what does your Apple crap have to do

What does not fabbing your own chips have to do with design? Nothing.

And lots of companies don't fab their own chips. Qualcomm doesn't fab
its won chips.

They license an ISA from ARM and design all their own chips to run it.

TSMC is a fab company, so what IP do they even have that Apple would buy?
