Well, that topic is one way to ignite a discussion? But I'm not really
here to discuss the Epic Game Store - well, not directly, anyway - and
don't really believe what the topic says anyway.

Rather, that topic is a direct response to a challenge set up in the
following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lRCR3-yqPE and it's
that VIDEO which is what I want to discuss. The video-person said to
start a discussion with the topic above, so I did it. Are you happy,
video-person?

More precisely, it is what the video itself discuss that I find
interesting because it's all about (drum roll) NFT video games! Yay!
It's been /so long/ since we've talked about NFTs. You've missed it
too, admit it.

Despite the video's click-baity title ("I played the WORST games on
the Epic Games Store"), Epic's storefront is only tangentially
involved. Some months ago, Epic allowed games with NFTs in its store:
a direct response to Valve banning NFTs from Steam entirely. The video
plays a selection of these NFT video games on Epic to see if Steam's
ban was worthwhile.

And, oh gosh, it is. It probably surprises nobody, but the games are
mediocre at best and God-awfully terrible at worst. They're hastily
made asset-flip games with no redeeming gameplay and nothing about
them that uses NFTs in their mechanics. They're just bad games
designed to convince you to buy ugly art to keep the crypto-con going
a bit longer.

"But how is that in any way new," you might ask. And you are right;
it's in no way new. This is what NFT games were before Epic allowed
them on their storefront, and they are exactly what everybody
predicted would result after Epic allowed NFT games into their
storefront. But that's important too: not only is a confirmation of
the fact, it's also a reminder of how useless and valueless NFTs
are... to games, to society, to the world. Because, even as some
politicians (the griftier sort, mostly) are still pushing the things,
it is important to harp on the obvious: NFTs are a con.

So watch the video (it's only twenty minutes) and have yourself a
laugh. The games are as bad as you'd expect and their inclusion of
NFTs are as meaningless as you could imagine.

Besides, everyone KNOWS the best digital store front for video games
is Indie.Go. ;-)

Nope. Don't miss anything to do with NFT's.

I've done good in this world. Now I'm tired and just want to be a cranky
dirty old man.
