I wasn't as sanguine towards "Quake 4". It wasn't a bad game, but I
felt it was one of the weakest in the franchise. Visually it was a
treat and I loved returning to the world of Stroggos, but
mechanically, it played too much like "Call of Duty", with overly
scripted events and linear levels... right down to the on-rails bits
where you man a gun-turret. The much hyped 'stroggification' sequence
was also pretty laughable due to the limitations of the technology; it
was hard for me to take it seriously when I kept getting distracted by
my avatar's tiny, blocky feet ;-)

Still, I wouldn't mind a sequel. The Stroggos-saga may not rank high
in originality, but it was a fun (if extremely sophomoric)
power-fantasy that I'd be happy to return to.

Coincidentally, I just reinstalled Q4 today (with the sikkmod fro
prettier graphics).

I did so because I so very much enjoyed the Quake 2 remaster which I
completed today. I still have the two remastered official mission
packs to play and the 'Call of the machine' spin-off to get through as
well.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing through Quake 2 again and am quite hyped
to play through Q4 again.
