Seeing the mainstay servers of AIOE and Mixmin are borked, what other
open access servers are available?

I've tried cyber23.de, and it works, albeit it seems to do a lot of
throttling and hanging waiting for messages.

I know about Eternal September and Rocksolid. Both require email addresses.

Are there any BBS systems that provide Usenet access after signup?

Are there any open NNTP servers besides the ones at issue?

Mine is open for reading to anyone: news.blueworldhosting.com (articles go
back 20+ years but the numbering is out of sorts, on the todo list)

If you want to post send me an e-mail so I can create an account, I just need
to be able to reply with credentials.

Cheers,
Jesse

Can we post to the text groups?

If you authenticate you can post. I may not be as privacy minded as AIOE or
Mixmin, as I require a user to tie back to posts. I have no interest in
individual's "identities". Just don't send spam, that's my only pet peeve, and
why I need auth to revoke access.

My injection headers do not include poster identity related data.

These are/were commonly used to post spam/trollposts to groups in de.*,
so please keep an eye on it if opening your server and allow using
different non-validated mail addresses.

I would recommend to change this to a pseudonym, so abuse can be easily
detected.

To avoid abuse it is necessary to do it.

Thank you for the offer. Do you have a PGP key so I can encrypt a email

+10

I've occasionally considered allowing people to have accounts on my
transit server, but have thus far not done so because I would also want
some sort of account that I can disable in the event of abuse.

Rocksolid Lite NNTP server has user accounts, access control, client
access and a PHP front end. It is under active development and is the
maintainers pride and joy hacker project. He is not likely to ghost it
into vaporware.

The maintainer is adding optional manual approval of account signups.

With Rslite you can review account signups to approve or deny them, and
lock out or delete user accounts. Moreover, users can sign up via the
web interface and will need a valid email. This does what you desire.

You could sync a Rocksolid node on a VPS (or box) inside the same
network as your INN peers, preventing external bandwidth cost. Your
"free account" users could use that peer, segregating them away from
your INN peers and the extra Linux foo required to manage user accounts.
I suppose there would be extra storage cost for a full Usenet feed.

Syncing internally would allow setting up multiple peers and customizing
which groups to carry on each one without wasting a lot of public bandwidth.

These links provide more information for RSlite.
