The device: iPhone 12

The OS: 15.3.1, the latest release version

The wireless: 802.11, subtype irrelevant, applies to a, b, g, n, ac, etc.

So I note that my iPhone 12 is NOT seeing local wireless. It doesn’t see
the SSIDs for _any_ 802.11 nets, including my WiFi6 and the 802.11g on
certain printers. It does see the hotspots on my iPad Pro and my iPad 6th
gen. A check with wireless-capable desktops and laptops shows that they all
see the various local SSIDs. The two iPads both see the wireless SSIDs, and
so does my other iPhone, a SE (2nd gen). The iPhone 12 used to see wireless.
It still detects 5G cellular wireless. (three bars 5G right now)

I restart it. It now sees wireless SSIDs and is currently connected to my
WiFi6 WAP. That WAP is about 3 metres from my current position, was running
properly and all other devices could see it, is in the same room, and
there’s a line of sight.

This is now the second time in under a week that the iPhone 12 has lost the
ability to detect 802.11 wireless but got it back after a restart. Does
anyone else have any similar problems?

This sounds like a hardware issue and I would contact Apple. You can do
that via the Apple Support app and they will have you run some
diagnostics on your phone, or you can go to an Apple store. It sounds
like you've done the right things, so the problem is probably in the
hardware.

Apple suggests doing a complete factory reset. This implies that they think
that the problem is software, not hardware. Have done a full backup, then the
reset. iPhone currently restoring from iCloud. We’ll see if the problem
persists.

That doesn't take long.

What was the outcome?

Why post on Usenet if you don't want interaction?

you’re an idiot. the problem occured twice over a period of nearly a week.
If you weren’t a complete and utter dolt you would know that it would take
_days_ to determine that it probably won’t be back... especially as it’s
_known_ that doing a restart makes it go away, and I did a restart as paret
of the factory reset. If the problem does not recur by this time next week,
then maybe it’s fixed. If it does recur, then, no, it’s not fixed and I
get back to Apple. In any case, as you’re too damn stupid to suggest
anything useful, I really don’t need any comments from the likesa of you,
vile one.

No one wants to talk to The Village Idiot.

But once a Village Idiot, always a Village Idiot. Since he forgets his
daily antics, he assumes that today is his first posting here and thus, he
can “contribute” and get respect.

Which explains why The Village Idiot continues to repost the same questions
over and over and over: Is ClamXAV malware? Do YOU agree with this
brilliant post from Hunter BD on the Apple support groups?

And so on.

After all, he is just trying to “expose bad guys”. 🙄

That's right, I am!

Does ANYONE reading in these groups use the ClamXav anti-malware
facility on their Apple computer?

No? Is that because it *IS* a scam?

Do tell.

*Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question*

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5931

The purpose of this User Tip is to help you write a question that will
draw out the best volunteers on this site—experienced users who can help
solve your problem competently and quickly. Presumably, that's what
brought you to this site, and to this User Tip.

First, it's important to understand that Apple Support Communities is
primarily a user-to-user technical support resource in which Apple
participates only in a very limited manner (as explained later). None of
your fellow Apple users contributing to this site represent Apple in any
way.

Serious question.

Have you installed https://clamxav.com on your iPad?

It's a free lunch! :-D
