In the latest (and I think previous) advert for Sky Mobile the female
doing the talking refers to
"....99% network coverage....."

Is this just another piece of advertising 'jargon' written by someone
who hasn't a clue what it is about or have they discovered a new way of
measuring usage statistics?

I know where my money sits!

I believe they are referring to 99% of the _population_, not 99% of the
land area.
But I could be wrong.

It will be, and it's whatever 02 claim, Sky rent space on there, they
don't have their own network (obvs)

"We are proud to say that over 99% of the UK population can get access to
our 4G network, no matter where they live or work"
... but may need to be outside to get access.

In the context of "silly questions" perhaps somebody could explain the
connection between usage statistics and network coverage ?

But that's the whole point. Cellular coverage is measured in percent
population - which is NOTHING like geographical coverage!

But how can you have 99% of network coverage? You either get 100% of the
network or none of the network. If you can only get 99% where is the
other 1%? Out of service, reserved for someone, what?

You said the ad claimed "....99% network coverage.....". Did the say
that or did they say "99% of network coverage"

99% of the population are within network coverage.

Obviously there will be sparsely populated areas with minimal or no network availability.
