Hi,
Is there any way to block threads that crosspost to a specific group?
There's a lot of political spam in comp.os.linux.advocacy that I don't
want to see.

Something like if any message crossposts to *politics would be nice.

That depends on the newsreader _and_ its version.

In Forté Agent versions 4.0 and later I can use this filter expression:

Newsgroups: politics

On the new filter pop-up...

If the list of headers to filter on does not contain “Newsgroups”,
then first select “Customise...” and add “Newsgroups” to the list.

Yes, that should be correct.

Not sure what everybody else are using to edit their Score file for Pan,
but I started using Geany some years back and I found that Erlang has
comments that are useful for editing the Score file because of syntax
coloring. I was looking for a language that had percent signs for comment
like characters and Geany had Erlang set up as one of its default syntax
color modes. :)

So, what I did was to set up a symlink to the Score file, but with a .erl
extension and automagically, Geany thinks it's an Erlang file and gives me
nice colors.

Maybe other editors can do the same? :)

I tried Thunderbird for newsgroups for a while, but I didn't like it. I was
coming over from Xnews in Windows (which I liked). Ended up going to Pan,
then to slrn (so I could use JOE's Jstar "flavor" as my editor).

I just use the Jstar variant of Joe (because I used WordStar for so long),
but it doesn't have the nice colors. But I don't edit the scorefile by hand
much -- just a handful of specialty filters (like the crosspost one above).
Most of my filters are built by slrn automatically by hitting "k" and
following the prompts. (The crosspost is the first filter I "build" when
installing slrn on a new machine.)

Eh, I prefer a UI for stuff like news. Thanks though.

Pan uses (basically?) the same scorefile as slrn, and it's a GUI
application.
