There is a new procedure now published by Apple for restoring one's
Apple computer to an earlier time.

Full details here:- https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203981

I've done it - it takes a while, but works!

Yes. It's not everyday that I restore my computer to an earlier time.

Over the last 15 years I've probably only done it half a dozen times.

How often have YOU done a System Restore on a Mac computer?

When did you last do so on your OWN computer - just to make SURE that it
works?

No. When Apple says it works why sould I ever put that into question?
Otherwise I would use a OS I really trust.

For you youngsters .........

There are just two types of hard drives:-

1. Those that have failed, and

2. Those that are GOING to fail.

It's not until you have lost all your photographs the for the very first
time that you will really understand the importance of back-ups! ;-)

There are some VERY good deals on pre-owned Apple iMacs nowadays.

If you find that the macOS is just too difficult for you to handle, you
can, if you wish, run a Linux distro of your choice on the hardware.

Guess, what I do for many years. I do not talk about it, I just do it.
My MBAir works very well with Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.03.

I did not do a restore not because it is difficult, there was simply no
necessity to such Windows-Style exercises.

Chatterbox.
Use redundant servers and not such old-style backup strategies. My Macs

//Solid-state drives (SSDs) offer a number of benefits over their
mechanical counterpart, the HDD. They contain no moving parts, but that
doesn't mean they're immune to failure!//
