Good to know. Thanks, guys. I wondered because apparently you can't
boot a Linux Distro or emulate one from what I have read.

You can create virtual machines from various ARM distros though using
Parallels, VM Fusion, UTM, Liviable and possibly other such tools. Asahi
are working on a distro which will run directly on Silicon Macs.

dunno what you read, but virtualizing linux works *very* well, and
there is work on booting it (not sure of the status of that).

Absolutely.

And Homebrew, the most popular *nix package manager for macOS has had
native Apple Silicon support since version 3.0.0 which was released in
2021:

I've been running *nix software on Macs for decades, and personally I
see no reason to boot into Linux just to run most popular *nix packages
when I can run them natively without that overhead right in macOS.

However, as others have said, you can run Linux in VMs, and there is a
native Apple Silicon Linux distribution in active development.

Just aimed at the usual numb nuts.

Yep, MacPorts also supports Apple Silicon. It's just not quite as
popular as Homebrew.

VMWare supports VM's on Mx. I believe most 64 bit ARM Linux' should run
fine - I'm not there yet (hope to avoid Linux on Mx actually).

I assume Parallels are there too ...

I remember some years ago using Fink but it only supports macOS versions up
to Catalina, so is out of the question for the time being :(

You don't need to get mad at the walled garden as Apple will be forced,
someday, perhaps by the EU, to dismantle that walled garden you dislike.

Almost all Linux distros freely run native on non-rooted Android nowadays.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=studio.com.techriz.andronix

Given the walled garden no longer exists, how then do you load native Linux
distros onto non-jailbroken iOS nowadays? https://andronix.app/

macOS takes native Linux distros
Windows takes native Linux distros.

Android takes native Linux distros.
What about the iOS walled garden?

I loved Fink during Mac OS X v10.2 days.

except it's only ~70% compatible, according to the developer.

that's not good. in fact, it's worse than on ios.

<https://andronix.app>
There are infinite uses for Andronix. To keep it in understandable
terms, you can almost do 70% of what you can do on an actual Linux
machine.

that's an unusual definition of infinite when it's limited to 70%, but
i digress.

looks like your feeble attempt to troll has backfired, big time.

there are a couple of options, not that there's any point in doing so.

you are confusing your lack of knowledge of how to do something with
there being a 'wall'.

a raspberry pi would be a much better choice for those who want to run
linux, or for more performance, use one of the slightly more expensive
boards.

nevertheless, here you go:

s-ish-linux-ios.jpg>

<https://www.iphoneness.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/27/a-Shell.jpg>

another option, for those so inclined, is running windows:

FWIW, I'm running Linux Mint on my 24 inch iMac - all by itself!

Assuming you're not lying and that you're telling the truth,
where is the URL to that Linux distro non-jailbroken app
on iOS you speak of please?

sufficient information was provided to answer that question.

linux users like to claim they're smarter than everyone, so it should
be no problem to figure it out.

the real question is what possible reason would anyone want to run a
linux distro on a phone.
