Question: The blog says to install usrmerge, but does not say anything about running it. Is that implemented at the reboot? or is that a
type elimination?

Installing usrmerge is all that is needed according to
<https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1997222#p1997222>. I
haven't done that yet.

I just ran it under 20.1 ('sudo apt install usrmerge' that is). Documentation says that a fresh install of 20.1 will have this already
implemented by default so I figured it couldn't hurt. And it didn't but you can list / and see all the linked folders now.

That "issue" with Pale Moon is not a Linux Mint or a Cinnamon bug. It
has to do with Pale Moon's settings. Uncheck "Open new windows in a
new tab instead" (Tools/Preferences/Tabs) and it goes away.
The poster's own observation "The issue does not occur with Firefox"
already pointed in that direction. But he didn't see it.

Thanks for the post, but I don't think that's the cause (I was the
poster in the LM forum). I've had that "Open new windows in a new tab
instead" setting for at least a couple of years, and I've got the same
setting in FF's prefs, and that works correctly. I did uncheck it in PM,
and the tab does now open correctly, so that does help. Have you seen
the "faulty" tab effect with 20.2 or even 20.1?

But if you see the follow-up post I made in the LM forum, you'll see
there's a strange TB alarm issue as well which leads to one of those
faulty tabs. I've since discovered that clicking on a link in a TB post
leads to the opening of one of those faulty tabs/windows, if that "Open
new windows in a new tab instead" pref is unchecked. However, If it is
checked the link opens normally in the last active PM tab/window.
Interestingly, if I change my default browser to FF and click on an
email hyperlink the link opens correctly if the FF "Open new windows in
a new tab instead" option is checked, but I get a faulty tab if I
uncheck the option and try the same thing.

Also, how do you account for the lack of a right-click menu on a faulty tab?

Issue resolved by timeshifting back to 20.1. I'll probably try
reinstalling 20.2 another time and seeing if the problem reappears.

There has been a Cinnamon update (to v. 5.0.5):
https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/blob/master/debian/changelog

"org.cinnamon.gschema.xml: Add firefox to focus passthru list."

I don't know what that means, but you may want to have another look at
LM 20.2.

Thanks for that, although on that github page I wondered if the line
below it is more relevant to the issue I have:
* window list applet: Track urgent/demanding attention separately from
other-workspace transience during initial window item creation.

See <https://www.technipages.com/linux-mint-configure-window-list-applet>

I'll give it a couple of weeks and let a few more updates to Cinnamon
occur, then try the upgrade to 20.2 again.

Timeshift is sooooo useful. :-)

I had an issues with Thunderbird launching in startup applications and as soon as I clicked the panel icon to minimize it, the button
disappeared. Reading github there seems to be a lot of complaints about panel buttons not working correctly initially. Someone posted a
revised applet.js file and I installed it and the problem is gone. So the issues are slowly being found and fixed, it's just waiting for
them to trickle down through the updates now.
