How can I find the message id of a very old article which has long ago
expired in my news feed & on the news server but which I can find on a
google search?

Google's dejanews no longer allows the original message (with headers) to
be viewed (at least forthose like me who don't have a Google account).

Howard Knight requires the message id in order to reference an article but
if you don't have that message id of the ancient article, how can you get
it?

Sign in to Google groups. Reply to the message you want
the MID for. Open your newsreader and look at the message
you posted in Google groups. Check the references header
of that post to find the MID you are looking for.

Maybe I forgot to say I don't have a Google login account and for obvious
reasons, I don't want one.

If it was easy to find the message id I wouldn't have asked the experts
here how to find a message id of a long expired message that is found using
a Google search.

I've suggested how you can do it through google. I don't
think there's another way of doing it. Why don't you just
create a google account with fake info and then dump it
when you are done with it?

I hope there is another way to find the message id on some Internet
archive.

The answer to that question would require good faith on your part to
believe that Google won't just give anyone an email account WITHOUT first
extracting identifying data from that person.

Google isn't stupid, so the normal things people think about like vpn or
proxies or redirected voip phone numbers won't work with them.

If you can tell me how Google will create an account WITHOUT taking that
real personal data from you I'd love to know how as I've tried many times.

And failed.

What kind of information are you thinking of and how, do you believe,
will this information be used to invade your privacy?

You seem a bit paranoid, if you believe Google will be able to spy on
you through your vpn.

Btw, do you own a smartphone?
