Yeah, it's that time again. Amazon 'gives away'* some games, so the
least we can do is talk about them here. This time we have on tap the
following games:

* Fallout 76 (both XBox and PC versions)
Given Amazon's recent TV show (and all the other Fallout
games released previously on Prime) this one is no
surprise. Fallout 76 is tremendously improved over its
release, but in the end it still is an MMORPG version
of a single-player game, ultimately leaving people in
both camps feeling a bit disappointed. Meh. It's good
to have it just for completionist's sake.

* Chivalry 2 (via Epic)
One of the best games for smacking your friends with a
sword. Nice visuals, solid melee combat, epic battles.
Server populations are low, though, but maybe this
freebie will help with that.

* Demon's Tilt (via Epic)
A pinball game crossed with a shoot-em-up. Very neon.
A bit too hyper-kinetic for my liking, but I imagine
this game has a number of hardcore fans, and well
deserved too.

* Black Desert
Another fantasy MMORPG. "Fun but grindy" seems to
be the general opinion. It looks pretty, but MMORPGs
have never been too attractive to me.

* Drawn: Trail of Shadows
A traditional-style adventure game with luscious,
almost water-color like visuals. I remember playing
the first game of the series and being underwhelmed
by the story and gameplay. This one doesn't seem
to offer much different. Fun if you're craving
something from the adventure genre, but not
very desirous otherwise.

* Rose Riddle: The Fairy Tale Detective (via Legacy)
I honestly don't know. Even watching the trailer video
and reading the game description, I really have no idea
what this game is about. Is it strategy? Puzzle?
Adventure? Maybe it's a revolutionary new game, maybe
it's Indie trash. I'm not sure I'll ever find out,
though.

A mixed bag. Nothing sticks out as terrible, which is an improvement
over many of Amazon's previous give-aways. It /almost/ makes the cost
of Prime worth paying.

* so long as you 'give away' some of your money to Amazon for its
Prime service

I think this was given away elsewhere recently.

Everything on Legacy seems to be shovelware. Not worth my time. If
anyone really wants it who doesn't have prime, I'll happily email or
post the code to claim it.

I'll pick up everything else as it's fairly easy through Amazon at least.

I forgot I already own this as well. I'm not sure if this one uses a
code, but if anyone wants it I can try to get the code and email or post
it.

If you're dying for some more Fallout, even though it's an MMO it can be
soloed for just about everything with the exception of a couple areas,
but those areas are usually filled with people and you don't really have
to join up into a party/guild like other MMOs so you can just go and do
it.

I think I actually liked it better than Fallout 4, I found the side
quests/areas you can stumble upon better.

Multiple times, from various sources... including Amazon itself back
in 2022 (and also here on c.s.i.p.g.a several times as well). Which
isn't really surprising, since MMORPGs generally make money from
post-sale transactions, and therefore try to streamline the onboarding
of new players.

"Demon's Tilt" apparently was also a freebie on Epic back in March
2022 as well... so if you claimed it back then, you won't benefit now.

Yeah, their legacy games rarely are of interest of me... partly
because the games themselves don't seem very exciting, but mostly
because I am just not interested in subscribing to Yet Another Game's
Service.

They aren't free per se. You have to subscribe (pay) for the Amazon
Prime service to be eligible to claim the games. If you have Amazon
Prime, go to https://game.amazon.com and sign in with your Amazon
account.

The games themselves come from a variety of services. The ones offered
by Amazon require you to download their app. Games from Epic or Steam
require you to link your accounts from those services to Amazon. Games
from GOG and Legacy do not, however (you get a code that needs to be
entered into the appropriate client). Once you claim the games, they
are yours to keep, even if you cancel Prime.

Prime Gaming also has a streaming cloud-based gaming service, but I've
no interest in that so I've never looked into how it works.

The games tend to be a mixed bag, and usually aren't too exciting;
they are usually a mixed bag of older B-tier games, arcade remakes and
Indie stuff. I've never seen the games as reason enough to subscribe
to Prime (honestly, I've never seen /anything/ that makes Prime worth
the price ;-). Still -seeing as my opinion on the matter was overruled
in this household- I figured that since I /was/ paying for it, I might
as well get advantage from the free games. ;-)

TL;DR: don't subscribe to Prime just for the games, but if you already
have it, why not use it to make The Number go up?
