Google do not require a phone number to set up an account.
They _ask_ for one. You can skip that.
Likewise a recovery e-mail address.

That is correct. That used to be the case and is still the case.

A few moments ago, I created a throw-away account and could indeed
skip the phone number and recovery e-mail address.

I only needed to provide a (bogus) first name, the (bogus) name part
of the (to be created) gmail.com address, a (bogus) birthday and could
specify gender as 'rather don't say.

Only two sites have my correct birth date. Sites that are very, very
unlikely to be breached.

All others get the same bogus different birth date that is about 18
months away from the real one.

I suspect you are not using the VPN when creating the bogus Google account.
The reason for that suspicion is that I've tried VPN many times & it fails.

Google will not let you (in most cases) create an account on VPN
(without adding a _valid_ verification phone number _or_ email address).

Certainly if you are able to create the account, Google will very soon get
suspicious if your VPN geolocation changes thousands of miles in minutes.

So your bogus account, most likely, used the same IP as your normal one.
Or, your bogus account, just as likely, is an email that is traced to you.

Google knows that.
But maybe you were able to defy the odds, by some miracle perhaps?

Allow me to ask the question which wasn't answered in the prior posts.

Are you using a VPN (whether or not it's traced to you) and a one-time-only
throwaway email address (whether or not it's traced to you) when you
created and _often used_ that bogus Google email account and therefore
bogus YouTube login when you thereafter frequently logged into that bogus
Google account on YouTube to access those age-restricted videos?

I suspect not.
Google (normally) won't allow it.

No, I didn't use a VPN. The claim (by MarioCPPP) was that a Google
Account requires a telephone number. Alan Browne said that that was
incorrect and I confirmed it. That's all.

You're shifting the goalposts, at least as far as this sub-thread is
concerned. The OP nor MarioCPPP mentioned the need to be able to use a
VPN.

Thanks for being one of the few people telling the truth on this thread.

Google is on to all the "tricks of the trade" we might think of in not only
the CREATION but the DAILY USE of bogus accounts which are done under VPN.

The OP's goalpost, as far as I can tell, was met long ago in that the
yt-dlp works on every platform in the newsgroup list except for only one.

And the OP didn't make a big deal of the lack of yt-dlp on that one system.
(It's the iOS people who are upset that yt-dlp isn't on their platform.)

My only observation in this subthread is that Google is wise to VPN.

Those who claim Google isn't wise to VPN, are likely either lying or
they're not using VPN for ACCOUNT CREATION and/or for DAILY ACCOUNT USE.

I think we agree on that point.

Well, I created an account about a year ago or two, and the phone was
required. I found no way to go around it.

Maybe the requisites vary per country. Or they use some other criteria.
