The information about what happened to AIOE has been posted to various
newsgroups, including this one, if you care to look.

The RAID controller failed and its failure damaged the contents
of the disks. Today or tomorrow they let me know what can be
recovered, if nothing the recovery times will be long

Ask Paolo to refund your subscription fee as you are most unhappy with the
service he has been providing.

A total RAID failure on a hobby server = several weeks minimum.

The server is locked in a COLO and you cannot put hands on it
to work on it. It is a bit like "repairing a ship-in-a-bottle".

This is not at all like recovering a computer in your home
computer room, where there are lots of spare hard drives sitting
on the coffee table.

If you know what you're doing, a couple minutes to replace the
controller and load / read the RAID config off the drives. If
the metadata gets clobbered or a VD corrupted, that's another
matter. A poster mentioned manually retagging the drives (Don't
init!), that does work.

Depends on the tech doing the repairs too. Some of them can
screw up hot-swapping a drive.
