Perhaps someone remembers about vms 5.5 .

I have a problem on ucx (ucx 4.1) (on simh 4.0)

Impossible to enable ftp service. I tried a lot of things (recreatinf
from @ucx$config, recreating all ucx*.dat, for example, or recreating
the user ucx$ftp, doing an autogen...). ucx itself works fine, but ftp
server.

What I see:

Go to UCX$CONFIG (IIRC it's in SYS$MANAGER)
and enable FTP server (there's a menu, the details currently escape me)
and then start FTP server (same menu.

What I remember is that V5.5-2 was much better than earlier versions.

I think everyone was running 5.5-2 (or probably 5.5-2H4 but H4 should
not be needed with simh).

With my weak psychic powers, I wouldn't try to guess what everyone
was doing. I try to read what someone writes. In a case like this,
actual output from a command like, say,

ucx show version

could be worth more than "vms 5.5" and/or "ucx 4.1".

Have you tried disabling and reenabling the service in UCX@CONFIG?

Is there a "ucx set config service ftp/user=ucx$ftp" variant or similar
for that version of UCX ?

The key bit is the "set config" or similar. Maybe a /permanent qualifier ?

IOW, try looking for something similar to DECnet's dynamic and permanent
database commands.

I'd say that it's time to delete that service (ucx set noservice),
and try again to define it (sys$manager:ucx$config.com).

ucx help set service

More modern TCPIP HELP says things like:

/USER_NAME

/USER_NAME=vms_user_account

Required if defining a new service entry; optional if modifying
an existing service.

So, how you get a service defined with "User_name: not defined" is
unclear to me. Hence, I'd delete it, and start again. But that lack of
USER_NAME would seem to explain your "Service User_name is incorrect"
error message.
