VMS Software Inc. is very pleased to announce the latest release of the VSI
OpenVMS Integrity and
Alpha versions of the VSI SSL111-V0101-1N-1 kits, which are now available for
download from
VMS Software Inc. These updated kits are available for use on both Itanium based
and Alpha based OpenVMS systems running OpenVMS I64 V8.4-1H1 and later, as well
as OpenVMS AXP V8.4-2L1 and V8.4-2L2.

This is OpenSSL V3, I believe. Good to see VSI keeping more current than in the
past.

Kudos ...

The name indicates that it is OpenSSL 1.1.1n with a bug fix for
CVE-2022-0778 which is the one Hoff mentioned in his post
about a bug in the ecliptic asymmetric stuff that can cause
am infinite loop to happen.

Nope. That would look different.

"111" and "3" might look similar in some sense, but they're
different.

The link at https://vmssoftware.com/ > Products > OpenSSL ,

https://vmssoftware.com/products/ssl111/ works better, but the
"Latest Version 1.1-1m" part seems unlikely. Similar at
https://vmssoftware.com/products/list/ .

And, as usual, the ".ZIPEXE" would benefit a little from "zip -A".
Using your own UnZip:

Actually, if you apply alternative math, then they are the same value.

1 + 1 + 1 = 3

Actually, it's base-one notation. All the places have the same
value, 1^N. 111(base 1) = 1* (1^0) + 1* (1^1) + 1* (1^2) = 3(base 10).

Every number in base that doesn’t contain a 0 (unless you include the
single digits 0 itself), is automatically an a palindrome.

And you can tell an even number from an odd number just by counting
its digits. With so many interesting properties, you have to wonder why
it's not more widely used.

While I am no expert in this area (is anyone?), be aware of the fact that the organization behind OpenSSL is currently maintaining two product streams.

1) OpenSSL-1 is the product everyone should be using now
2) OpenSSL-3 is a product which will be targeted at FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards)
https://www.openssl.org/blog/blog/2021/09/22/OpenSSL3-fips-submission/

I have no clue as to whether these streams will ever merge

Not sure why I was thinking the latest from VSI was the OpenSSL-3 that you
mentioned. Perhaps wishful thinking.

I agree. I'd advise sticking with the actual OpenSSL documentation,
and avoiding non-expert summaries.

I doubt that either of those statements is true.
