Has anyone thought about doing a Wordle clone for VMS ?

No interest in doing this myself, but I thought I would put the idea
into your heads after seeing that someone has created a Wordle clone
in Pascal for Multics:

https://www.theregister.com/2022/06/07/wordle_multics/

Simon.

PS: Didn't realise Multics was open source now. That's another one to
add to the outstanding list. :-)

I thought Multics was released to the Open Source world more than
a decade (or two or three) ago.

It's similar to the Mastermind board game, but with letters instead of colours

It's another stupid thing that people post on FaceBook. Some kind of puzzle
with green and gray and yellow squares.

Multics was only released to the Open Source world within the last decade,
thanks to the efforts of some of my friends. Bull and MIT had to hash out the
copyrights before that could happen.

The code linked in the article build on VMS with 3 tiny changes:

63 fconnect(inwords, 'vfile_ words.txt');
->
63 open(inwords, 'vfile_ words.txt', old);

75 fclose(inwords);
->
75 close(inwords);

108 chosenword := wordlist[trunc(clock) mod MAX_WORD_INDEX];
->
108 chosenword := wordlist[clock mod MAX_WORD_INDEX];

That dumb shit shows up in my feed every morning. All I really care about is
who flew what over the weekend, and to what altitude and mach number. All of
the rest is ignorant fluff. All I know is it's some 5x5 puzzle. The numbers
people post for scores make no sense and, that, like Depp and Herd, who gives
a rats arse?

Great to see an American adopt the correct spelling of arse!

Yeah, who cares about Depp and Herd? But I'm on the edge of my seat of
Brangelina and the Russians in the winery :-(

Just saw this, and exactly so, though I used "readonly" instead of
"old". It also compiles on linux with
63c63

75c75

If you're talking about his actions on Ukraine, I personally think he's got the

Yes, and also things like signing international agreements while knowing
that he would not be honouring the agreement he just signed:

Unknown, but the PM has handled his case very badly. He's been quite
transparently having one law for him and his friends, and a different law
for everyone else. He's also been obviously lying about his lack of
knowledge that various gatherings were parties rather than meetings.

A common complaint from his MPs is that they've been having to face
constituents who were not allowed to go to their parent's or child's
funerals during lockdown, while Number 10 was having parties with no
social distancing.

Quite a lot of the population were already aware that he was a continual
liar with no self-control. He won't answer questions about how many
children he's fathered, and the obvious conclusion is that he doesn't
know. However, his MPs and voters are now having to face up to what
they've lumbered themselves with, and they don't like the way it makes
them look. They're also aware that he's likely to loose them the next
election, which was what caused the recent vote of confidence.

I repeat myself. Of the major countries that people usually care about,
who was different?

And Nancy Pelosi was having private sessions at a hairdresser.
Cuomo was hosting parties at the Governor's mansion.
de Blasio (former mayor of NYC) was travelling to expensive restaurants
in NJ for large dinners with his friends (maskless) while NYC was on
lockdown.

How do you tell when a politician is lying?

General attitude:

I'd rather have an asshole who does right for the country than an angel that
totally screws up the country.

Note: Trump is neither, he's an asshole that screws up the country, and a
subversive traitor who wanted to take away our form of government.

No, no, NO! Just gone an wrecked it :-(

Heard a funny story about two Americans in Tasmania the other day who
wanted a beer on tap (Vom Fass) but couldn't work out Draught on the
menu. I think they ended up getting G and Ts :-)

Also signing a defense pact with Finland and Sweden before they joined
NATO is very ballsy. Not sure if his government had a mandate for that
but impressive none the less.
