I have been running Mint 20.2 since July (from memory).
It has been stable all the way through. Help was only sought for getting the odd application going.

During the last few days with just MythTV, a browser and thunderbird running, one of the two DVD player trays in the desktop will open with no prompting from me.

It is not life-threatening but I am curious to discover if anyone else has or is experiencing the same thing.

If I recall correctly, then that was a kernel bug in a particular
kernel version.

Off the top of my head, I don't remember what kernel version it was,
though, but it was either way not a recent one, because people were
already reporting about that issue quite a while ago. It may possibly
have been in 5.11.

I would advise switching to one of the LTS kernels. The three most
recent LTS kernels are 5.4, 5.10 and 5.15, although 5.15 has not been
officially assigned the LTS moniker yet, given that 5.16 has still not
been declared stable yet.

If you want to go farther back, then there's also 4.19, 4.14, 4.9 and
4.4, all of which are still supported — the 3.x LTS kernels have already
expired by now.

As you can see, I am already using 5.4.0-88.

Changing lernels creates a bigger problem for mer as it means compiling frsh drivers fot mythtv and probably VBox and VMware.

Anyway it was working fine until about ten days ago. I think it some kind of glitch that came with an update.

Thank you, Alan
