know for the usual reasons. TIA

I use this:
Tools > Usenet filters
Filter expression: message-id: aioe.org
[x] Delete
[x] Global
All other options (including "Expire") are unchecked.

Since "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence", I don't know
if this actually works but I'm not aware of having seen anything from
that domain at least since I started using it.

Not easily.

You could try filtering on the "Message-ID:" header containing aioe
[Agent 5.0 and later], but posts from aioe do not always have aioe
in the Message-ID. The poster may have generated his own Message-ID
without aioe in it.

The only headers guaranteed to identify AOIE posts are
"NNTP-Posting-Host:", "X-Complaints-To:", and "Path:". None of
these are "overview" headers, which means that these header fields
are not included when the server sends headers to your news reader.
Agent cannot filter on these headers.

There is an add-on NFilter [1] which lets one filter on non-overview
headers like "NNTP-Posting-Host:" and "X-Complaints-To:". NFilter
needs support from the news server for using the XHDR command with
non-overview headers. Unfortunately your news server APN/Easynews
does not provide this support. AFAICT neither do any of the big premium
news servers whose primary market is binary users.

AFAIK Thunderbird [2] may be able to filter on "NNTP-Posting-Host:"
or "X-Complaints-To:" using the HEAD command which your server does
support. Just be aware that HEAD downloads the full header, which
will count towards your gigs downloaded.

(b) For nFilter version 1.21-b1 (NewsProxy.exe), use a hex editor

Long ago, I had downloaded (but never installed or used) NewsProxy
V1.2.5, which claims to be an enhanced version of NFilter, with the
enhancements coming from "akula". The last revision shown before
akula's are:
>* 3 30/08/99 11:47a Mark Burkley
>* rel 1.2.0-b3. Bug fixes to xref check and filter file select

akula's revisions show they were made from 2005-2008.

In case I ever decide I want the additional filtering these programs
provide, I'd appreciate any comments or recommendations you'd care to
make about these three versions (1.20, 1.21-bl, and 1.2.5).

I did as Opinicus suggested and will see what happens. Whomever it is
is just one of those irritating posters who troll and make repetitive
posts, new name every day and I thought perhaps there was a way to
attack aioe - I have heard through the years, it's pointless to send
complaints to aioe :(

It would be worth checking whether the irritating poster's message-IDs
contained aioe before you begin.

Yes, they did, just different names at regular intervals. The post
content is all the same so he clearly does a one liner then
copy/pastes it to be totally irritating. The only consistent thing was
aioe :( Maybe he's one of those people who feel everyone should be on

AIUI what "akula"/"bill" added was an option to strip specific headers
from messages you send.

I am not aware of much in the way of additional filtering capability
for messages you receive from the news server.
